"Listen, my sons," the mother whispered, her voice soft but full of ancient weight. The firelight flickered, casting shadows that danced on the walls. She paused, her eyes darkened by the flames. "Sometime soon, a being of light will rise from the dawn, pure and bright, and a being of shadow, born from the darkest night, will emerge." She sighed, a sadness in her voice. "They won't truly meet, not for centuries. One will burn too brightly, the other will hide too deep."
Her gaze shifted to her sons, their eyes wide, entranced by the tale. "But one day, when the world teeters on the edge of ruin, the light and shadow will meet. Not as enemies, but as two halves of a whole." She smiled, though there was a trace of longing in her expression. She brushed her fingers across the youngest boy's temple. "And when they do, the world will be at peace again. Balance will reign, and the dark times will end."
She let the silence hang in the air, the crackle of the fire filling the space. "They are always meant to find each other."

“I understand you want to save Azriel, but I won’t let you sacrifice Valkyrie troops in the high of your mate-induced anxiety so you can hate yourself for it later.”
Mate-induced anxiety? What the hell was that? Whatever anxiety Gwyn felt was the result of the other half of her soul being held by Koschei, not the stupid mating-bond. This blazing, burning fury that lit her up from the inside out was all hers. Only the Gwyn who had just won Azriel’s heart could possess an ire so consuming.
“I know it feels normal. It’s going to feel natural,” Nesta said calmly. “The urge to turn the world to ash in order to save him, right? The anger that justifies you going to such extremes. It feels like any other decision. Like you’re choosing what to read for the night.” Lady Death shook her head. “It’s not. Once the haze clears, you may regret what you did in the heat of the moment, Gwyn.”
Gwyn shoved the words away, glowering at her friend now, “Maybe I will regret it.” She took a step forward so they were nearly chest to chest, “But I know I will regret letting Koschei kill Azriel because I was too scared to stand up to you and Rhysand.” -

Nesta is struggling with depression and trauma from the war with Hybern. She is retracting further and further into herself, pushing everyone away and developing some self destructive coping mechanisms.
The story begins when Nesta decides to invite that first male into her bed.

I am writing to you both in an hour of need — there has been a murder within the nobility of my Court.
A human woman in the service of House Belacqua poisoned Lord Morozko Belacqua who has fallen gravely ill and is not expected to live through the coming days.
I write to you both as I am at an impasse of sorts: there, of course, will be a trial and subsequent punishment. However, as High Lady Feyre is Made, I would ask that High Lord Rhysand and High Lady Feyre give counsel on how to punish a human for such crimes.
Tenuous still are relations with the Human Realm; relations that are fraught from centuries of conflict and disdain.
The trial is set for one month after the Winter Solstice.
I ask that you respond as soon as you are able.
