Rather than a slow-and-steady preservation of continuity, she'd been forked, copied from her original biological brain onto synthetic substrate. She has all the Tillandsia's digital landscape to play with, but she also has an ortet to her ramet, and must find a niche for herself in a world where, technically, she already exists.
Sequel to No Gods, No Masters. It's highly recommended that you read that story first.
