He’d been trying to find Bucky ever since that day by the Potomac, when his best friend had dragged him from the water. After Steve let him beat him to pieces because he knew the Bucky Barnes he remembered was still inside. Even if it was buried under rubble and years of pain, Steve knew he was there, so he let Bucky beat through his body, through his blood and bone and skin so his best friend could find what he was looking for. Steve would let him do it again if he wanted to. He’d let him do anything he wanted again and again if Bucky wanted it. It had been that way for years, it wouldn’t stop now. Before he could say something else, Bucky spoke again.
