Summary
Paige Breleigh, a deeply empathetic young woman from an overly religious family, is befriended by Gabriel, a gravitational force of a person with a wicked sense of humor, a questionable past, and an insatiable sweet tooth. As their friendship develops into something more, the world around them seems to crumble. Secrets and uninvited psychic visions turn friends and family against each other, and a once-normal community becomes a functioning cult in preparation for the apocalypse. One fateful morning, the only person left that Paige trusts shows up in her room and begs her to run away with him.
Most of the first chapter is mainly setup. This is probably going to be multi-part with lots of feels and flashbacks, but watch out for silly bonus chapters!!

The air was cold, biting, and cut the skin like a sharp blade as the sky began to turn a pale shade of gray. Guts moved forward, his steps heavy and steady, with his head down and his gaze fixed on the rocky ground ahead of him. The outlines of the world around him seemed blurred, wrapped in the morning mist, but in his mind everything was all too clear, painfully vivid: The clang of steel clashing against steel still echoed in his ears, like an incessant reminder of what had happened just moments before. Every strike still vibrated in his bones, every word left unsaid weighed on his heart. The farewell had taken place in that brief instant of conflict, but its echo continued to reverberate in his soul.
He did not look back. He couldn’t. If he stopped even for a moment, he knew he would be overwhelmed by pain and doubt. And then he would be unable to move forward. But with every step that took him farther from the Band of the Hawk, a part of him seemed to remain behind, as if his soul was splitting in two, leaving behind irretrievable fragments.

1 - Darcy never went to work for Jane to get credits, instead she came home to New York to run her families bakery started by her great-grandfather. The bakery happens to be across the street from Shield headquarters and the agents are longtime customers. Nick promised to look after her for her grandmother, Phil sends new agents to pick up his order sure its a test, Clint hangs around for taste testing and Natasha quietly reads a magazine in the corner. When Steve is brought in he remembers the place and from the photo on the wall he remembers her grandmother in USO outfit preserved upstairs. Darcy looks between the photo and the shine in Steve's eyes and recognizes him, Clint swears her to silence and Steve gets free muffins. Tony routinely drops by offering to upgrade her appliances but Darcy just slides Pepper extra treats to settle her nerves. No one is impressed with her boyfriend accountant Jesse, who helpfully tries to get her to make more adult, less whimsical choices. Jesse and Darcy are arguing over her favorite pair of jeans when aliens rain down from the sky and Darcy hits the panic button on Phil's bracelet. A Shield SUV takes them to meet Pepper's plane and Jesse gets a shock as they, along w/ Jane Foster, watch New York under attack. Darcy coaxes Nick to let her see Phil in hospital, Jesse moves in with Darcy and Tony offers to buy her assistants an apartment. Tony brings in fellow scientist Bruce who eventually puts his foot in his mouth before apologizing. Jesse proposes and she accepts. chap 10 on 11/27/13 writer found new job after bakery closure.
2- How Darcy rescued a kitten from a fire fight and Nick adopted it.
3 - Darcy and Bruce bake on the ancient stove in her apartment getting distracted.
