When they speak, it is under the shroud of night, and the convent murmurs scandal.

Eirael captures his sleeve. Then the frost creeps up her neck and her eyes clamp shut. During the seconds she spends managing her breathing, Gale leans toward her. As if he has a right to indulge his impulse, closing the distance.
“Sister Eirael, you have my word, I will not let harm come to your books.” He tries his best reassuring smile when her eyes peek open. “I just need…”
His gaze drifts to the stained glass depiction of Mystra that backlights her.
“Peace,” he finishes, though that isn’t truly the word he means.
Her eyes are softer when his attention returns to her, and her grip on his sleeve relents with a cold caress of her palm against the fabric. It is wet.
“It’s only water,” he says. “It isn’t harmful.”
She nods once, sighs, and offers him a tight smile. Peace.
