This is part three of the freestanding follow-up to the modern AU "Aces Of Spades And Hearts" series, that takes place about three years after Billy's and Ned's wedding in "At Ends Of Nights" (part 7 of "Aces...").
Ned is not the villain here, but a victim of gang rape and is on the very shaky road to recovery and his husband Billy finally knows that his ex boyfriend Woodes Rogers was one of the rapists.
"On The Lap Of The Waves" is part three and continues a couple of days after the last chapter in "Banished From Sanctuary", where Ned's PTSD made him come to an extreme conclusion. The title is from Moonsorrow's "Sankaritarina".
I will use both 1st and 3rd person pov with both Billy and Ned. Each chapter will be named with the pov. I also want to point out that this is VERY canon divergent when it comes to the characters, especially Ned Low. Wipe out the image of him as a cruel sadist, because this is not the case in the AU at all.
If you're a fan of History Channel's "Vikings" and remember Tadhg Murphy's role Arne, or have seen this awesome actor in another role than Ned Low, "my" Ned will be far closer to those than the Ned Low character. And Billy is definately not a "Black Sails season 4 Billy".

Summary
Harry's 5th year was probably the worst year of his life. First Voldemort happened, then Umbridge, then Voldemort AGAIN, and then Sirius died. Harry doesn't even have the time to properly mourn Sirius before he's shipped back to the Dursley's for the summer. He can't even think straight and with each passing day since losing Sirius, Harry feels more and more exhausted. By the time his 16th birthday rolls around, Uncle Vernon has to literally beat Harry just to wake him up.
After a rather brutal beating given to him by his uncle on the eve of his birthday, Harry wakes to find something he had never thought possible. He wakes up to find a long snake tail instead of his legs. A few days later, his family abandons him in some random forest.
What a wonderful way to start his 16th year of life after the worst year of his life.

Completed ✅ Oh my god what a rollercoaster. Tom and Harry are both equally unhealthy for each other and are capable of hurting the other to an insane degree. Ending was bittersweet, and relatively open for interpretation.
