“Goh?”, Chloe quietly asks and Goh mutters some kind of reply, still looking into the papers. “Why exactly do you not need friends?”
“Huh? W-why do you ask?”, Goh raises a brow in confusion.
“Well, I’m just always intrigued by how you confidently state that you don’t need any friends. I just wonder if there’s any particular reason”, she explains further, still looking at him to get some sort of explanation.
Goh just stares at her, not exactly sure how to answer that question. He’s just confused.
Chloe is still looking at him and Goh thinks he’s gonna disappear under her piercing look. He gives up on continuing the homework. He takes a deep breath before trying to form some kind of a reply. “Friends are…”. Useless, that’s what Goh wanted to say, but he’s sure it would hurt Chloe, so he tries another way. “I’m just better on my own”.

Summary
“Look who it is, the cry baby” one boy said and the rest of the classmates started to laugh.
Chloe wanted to say something, but instead, she looked up at Goh, who visibly tensed next to her and started to shake a little. He fisted his shaking hand and kept looking at the ground. He took a few deep breaths to calm himself down though and whispered under his breath please, ignore them, Chloe.
Chloe nodded her head and tried her hardest to ignore the whole thing, even if it was hard to do so. They’re almost at the Laboratory anyway and Goh’s gonna be safe and sound soon. The classmate didn’t give up on targeting Goh though and continued to make some mean comments.
“What’s up, loser?”, the same boy said again mockingly, passing them by.
“Hey, don’t call him that!”, Chloe has had enough, and tried to defend her friend, but the classmate wasn’t phased by it.
“Because what? He’s gonna cry like a cry baby again?”, the boy laughed.
Chloe looked at Goh who started to shake, he already had tears in his eyes and even a few had already fallen.
“Look, he already started to cry, he’s such a loser”, the boy said mockingly again and pushed Goh onto the ground.

“Did you maybe skip the part where you both got together and already got married?”, she asks, no longer paying attention to the book she was just reading. Goh chokes on the juice he was drinking and looks at her with a confused look.
“I just mean, a wedding invitation would be nice”, she says, pretending to be offended.
“Chloe, stop! You know we’re not together!”, Goh says, a little bit too quietly, like he would be afraid of Ash hearing his words.
“Yeah?, Chloe asks. “That explains why Ash would be bathing your own Pokemon. That’s actually pretty self-explanatory”, she jokes and focuses on the book again, even if she already read it a hundred times.

Summary
Gary pets Umbreon when he hears Ash’s phone vibrate. He curiously looks up at Ash, who quickly fishes his phone out of his pocket – his already sad smile weakens at the name written on it. Gary doesn’t notice any typing back, Ash just nervously hides the phone back into his hoodie.
“Ashy?”, Gary asks worriedly, a lot of concern in his eyes, but the aforementioned boy just shakes his head.
“It’s nothing, we should be going back to Pallet Town, yeah?”
Gary sighs but doesn’t question anything – at least for now. He already had more than enough patience for Ash today, and he can only hope that Ash really knows what he’s doing like he’s claiming to.
And Ash genuinely thinks he knows what he’s doing. It will be for the better, right? Deep down, he knows it won’t. Just don’t regret it later, Gary’s words ring in his head. And he already regrets it. He’s about to make the dumbest decision ever, and he doesn’t stop himself from doing that anyway.

Summary
“You better have a good reason to wake me up that early”, Goh says, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
“I sure do. We have to put up the Christmas tree together”, Ash says excitedly, and Goh almost chokes on the air. He checks his phone again, and it is indeed Christmas Eve today.
He blinks stupidly at Ash, who is still way too excited about the whole thing. He has that stupid charming smile on his face, and he calmly blinks at Goh back. Their blinking contest doesn’t last long when Goh finally decides to lay himself down on the bed again, closing his eyes, covering himself with the blanket and mumbling Okay, whatever. You can do it yourself.
Ash shares a confused look with Pikachu, but uncovers Goh from the blanket and fully addresses his boyfriend.
“Aren’t you excited?”, Ash asks, some worry in his voice, but Goh just scoffs something under his breath.

He takes a deep breath before asking. “What did you mean by a free win? Are you implying that I’m not capable of winning against you?”
Oh, so that’s what it all was about.
“I didn’t say that”, Ash immediately argues back, keeping his distance from Goh now. That’s not what he meant for Arceus’ sake. “I just meant you had more chances of winning with me on your team”.
“So you’re saying I’m weak?”, Goh asks, his voice as shaky as his fist now.
“Don’t say words and push them into my mouth”, Ash says. He doesn’t mean to sound harsh but he does anyway. The harshness doesn’t help with the throbbing pain in Goh’s head right now.
“You just implied it”.
“I get that you’re tired now and you’re moody, but the word weak hasn’t even left my mouth until now. Don’t accuse me of saying something I haven’t”, Ash says, equally upset now.

“I think that at some point we need to figure it out”, Ash says and Goh finally opens his eyes to look at him confused. “Your panic attacks, I mean”, Ash explains further and points at Goh’s chest. “And that too. If you want it or not”.
“Ash, I’m fine”, Goh says, his voice still shaky, and Ash rolls his eyes.
“Yeah, sure, ‘cause you flinching in fear every time I try to touch your chest is something to look forward to”, Ash muses sarcastically, and Goh bites his lips in order to not to say his own sarcastic remark that is at the end of his tongue.
“You always let your Pokemon cuddle on your chest, but whenever I try to touch you there, you flinch in fear like I would try to hurt you, but I’m just trying to help”, Ash says, glancing from time to time at Goh to see how he’s reacting to his words.
Goh stops walking to process whatever he just heard. His hand fists on its own and he tries to ignore the tears that started to gather in the corner of his eyes.
“You know what? Sometimes I think that my Pokemon are more understanding than you are”, Goh says bitterly, and Ash closes his eyes in an attempt to calm himself down

Goh looks up in fear, but is met with familiar, confident brown eyes and an understanding nod. Ash knows there’s a lot of happening in Goh’s head right now. He knows it won’t be just a battle. He knows it’s more than that for Goh. It’s something that he wants to prove, not only to himself, but to everyone around.
“I accept the challenge”, Ash says, already fixing the cap on his head.

Summary
“Good job, Grookey”, Goh praises his partner, catching the ball, Grookey shrieks happily in return, and his body starts glowing in a familiar light.
“I think he’s evolving”, Ash says, and they all gather around Grookey to watch the evolution that’s about to happen up close.
“That’s so cool!”, Goh exclaims, looking in awe.
Goh’s soft look turns into a concerned one when he notices Grookey particularly struggling. He looks more in pain than he should be, even during the evolution. But before he can even ponder on it, the light disappears and Grookey is still…Grookey, and Thwackey isn’t registered to his Pokedex.
“Huh? That’s weird”, Ash says, confused. Grookey just tilts his head in confusion too – and in relief – but exclaims a happy Grookey! when he notices he still is in his Grookey form indeed.
“I wonder what went wrong though”, Goh scratches his head in thought. “I don’t have a Thwackey registered to my Pokedex yet, so that’s a lost opportunity”.
Grookey looks up at his trainer with sad eyes, but Goh reads his upset in a wrong way. “Don’t worry, Grookey. We’ll figure out something to help”.

“Ash!, Goh screams, which is followed by similar and equally worried Pikapi!.
Ash groans, but recovers quickly. “We’re fine!”.
Goh breaths out in relief, but he knows it’s not the end of this situation. It’s a nightmare, and he wants it to end without anyone getting further hurt.
“You’re a stubborn one, huh?”, Ash says mostly to himself, and he confidently grins when Primeape focuses her attention on him again.
“Perfect!”, he mumbles to himself again. “Goh, I’m gonna distract her, you escape when we’ll be out of your sight!”.
Goh widens his eyes in shock. He opens his mouth to shout, but nothing leaves his lips. Ash is already running away with Grookey in arms, and angry Primeape on his tail.
The unspoken words lay uncomfortably on his tongue, so he swallows so they can disappear down his throat. Goh swears that he feels tears streaming down his face, but he doesn’t have time to ponder on it. On instinct, he reaches for Cinderace’s Pokeball before the boy disappears completely from his blurry vision.
He exhales a shaky breath before speaking. “You need to run after Ash and help him. Please, Cinderace”.

Summary
Another sigh leaves his mouth as he glances towards Ash. Goh gives the necklace in his hand a last squeeze before he abruptly decides to wake up his boyfriend.
"Ash", Goh says loudly and hits the aforementioned boy with the nearby pillow in his face.
A broken snore escapes Ash's lips as he wakes up from his slumber and sleepily looks at his wide awake boyfriend.
"Was I snoring?", he sheepishly asks, rubbing the rest of sleep from his eyes.
"Around the 278th snore now, but that's not what I was bothered by", Goh says while turning on his back again to stare at the ceiling above him.
"You’re counting my snores instead of Mareep to help you fall asleep?”, Ash jokes, as he finds Goh’s hand under the covers to hold it. Ash quickly becomes serious when he feels how sweaty Goh’s hand is and how it’s shaking in his grip.
“If your overthinking is louder than my snoring, then it is a serious matter. What's wrong?", Ash fully addresses his boyfriend now and looks at him curiously.
Goh sighs for another time this sleepless night, closing his eyes for a second before opening them again and voicing out his thoughts. It’s now or never. "Ash...do you even want to marry me?"

Summary
Ash still reaches for his Rotom Phone though, and he clicks on the familiar app where he usually posts his photos updates for well, mostly his fans and people he cares about – his friends and family.
Ash, despite not being active much, still gets a lot of likes under his posts. He’s not surprised even now to see that the photo he posted of Goh has reached over one million likes. He knits his brows when he notices that the comments section has a pretty high amount of them as well. With a shaky thumb, he clicks on them, and he breathes out in relief when at least most of them are positive and show the genuine curiosity of what Goh is up to.
Ash scrolls further, and with every single scroll, he starts to feel more and more uneasy. He stops scrolling when he starts to feel the anger taking over him.
"Will we ever find out his name or will he always be World’s Champion fame exploiter? Genuinely, dunno who the guy is. He’s no one important. What does the World Champion see in that kind of person?"

They decided to hang out in the nearest cafe, and Goh’s surprised it’s not as busy as he thought it would be during that week. They’re still waiting for Lisia to join them, and Serena explained that the girl never misses any chances of giving interviews. Goh’s a little nervous about meeting Wallace’s niece, and May tries to brush his worries off by saying that Lisia is nice and chill and they will enjoy her company.
And they do enjoy her company despite her not-so-subtle trying to flirt with Goh in the first second of their meeting.
“Oh my, my, the World Champion has an absolute taste”, she winks and Goh blushes a little at her words. He feels Ash’s posture stiffening and he puts an arm around Goh’s waist so he could pull him closer. Despite Goh’s embarrassment, he still smirks to himself, because jealous Ash is a sight he rarely sees.
“I think every mermaid would love to live in your eyes. What’s your name, you ocean blue eyes beauty?”, she asks, and Goh can hear the sincerity in her voice right now. Her voice isn’t teasing or flirting anymore, so he opens his mouth to answer when Ash cuts him off.
“That’s Goh, he’s my partner ”, and Goh almost chokes on his coffee.

“What do you mean?”, Ash asks, a familiar wave of upset bottling in his voice already, although he tries to stay composed.
Goh isn’t sure what he means in all honesty, but he knows that if he would love to be a part of Project Mew again, Ash would want to go with him, and Goh doesn’t like that at all. It shows that he’s weak, and he has the right to achieve his dream on his own, right?
“You heard me. I think I’m depending on you too much again”, Goh finally repeats, casting his gaze away. He can’t look into Ash’s eyes anymore. “I don’t think I’ve done something on my own since we started dating. You’re always everywhere with me, meddling into everything”.

Summary
“Please, calm down, you can trust us”, Ash calmly says, but Zoroark roars madly as he finally launches one of his attacks.
Goh’s eyes widen and he can hear Ash yell watch out, but he’s too close to the Pokemon and he doesn’t have enough time to run. From the corner of his eyes, he sees Ash catching up to him and trying to protectively hug him, but with his last amount of strength, Goh pushes Ash away and Zoroark hits him instead. Twice.
Goh screams hard from the pain as he falls down to the ground. The smoke from the impact surrounds him, which makes it harder for him to breathe. He abruptly starts to cough and he hisses in pain as it hurts his chest.
“Goh!”, Ash yells as he runs to his hurt partner, ignoring the smoke, and scoops him in his arms. “Shit, baby, it’s okay”, he says, holding Goh’s hand into his own.

Pikachu jumps happily on the bed, curling in the corner of it. Ash chuckles at the sight before he opens the drawer to hide the invitation in there. He places them with extra care in there – just like Goh would want to – when a medium sized notebook that he hasn’t seen before catches his attention. He carefully takes it into his hand, and he opens it in the middle of it. With a terrified look, he closes it and puts it back to the drawer. It’s not an ordinary notebook, it’s a diary. Goh’s diary. And Ash has found it.

Summary
“I can’t believe they told us nothing and acted so casually”, Goh scoffs under his breath as he lies down next to Ash in bed. Ash, as always, makes more room for him, and Goh finds his favorite place on his chest.
“Well, I think we deserved it”, Ash chuckles and Goh sighs. Well, that’s true. They do deserve it after all the teasing they did earlier. “But I felt their auras, they’re brighter, happier”, Ash says, and Goh hums, replying nothing. He’s already on the verge of falling asleep, it’s only a matter of minutes before he will do so.
Ash feels it too, and he already counts seconds until Goh will be asleep. It gives him more time to do his late night overthinking. Ash is…not feeling well lately. Mentally. Some days and nights are better than the others, but for most of the time, he puts up a facade on his face midday, but when the stars appear in the sky, and Goh is fast asleep next to him, his mind twirls with intrusive thoughts.

School was…always so unbearable for him to go to. Classmates used to call him a Pokemon freak just because he knows a lot about Pokemon, so he’d rather stay quiet and hang out by himself in the playground. He felt safest that way. Then the bullying started, taking him out of his safe zone. Always verbal, and leaving a scar each time his classmates called him names. Pokemon freak. Cry baby. Weakling. Goh always brushed it off, saying he doesn’t need any friends, anyone in his life, until the point that it started to concern the teachers and they called his parents on various occasions. His parents didn’t know what to do either, they were as clueless as the teachers. They never spent enough time with Goh, they thought it was just a phase that Goh just preferred to spend time by himself, in his room researching Pokemon. Wasn’t that normal?

There’s a few minutes of silence as Ash strokes Goh’s hair at a slow pace. Goh blinks slowly at the wall, basking in Ash’s comforting embrace. His breathing gets even at some point, and Ash thinks that Goh has already fallen asleep, but a quiet mumble proves him wrong.
“Tell me about it”.
Ash lets out a confused huh?.
“You said that the episode reminded you of that time too, so tell me about it”, Goh quietly explains, and Ash exhales a shaky breath.
It’s gonna be hard to talk about it. Ash is aware that Goh knows some bits of his inner turmoil when it comes to how he truly felt when he hid in Alola for almost a year, and it’s only gonna be fair if Ash will elaborate on it further since he knows every detail now of what Goh has felt during that time thanks to his diary he has read. But…where does he start?
“Maybe the day when we were supposed to go on our own journeys?”, Goh proposes, and that’s when Ash realizes he voiced out the question aloud.
So he does so. He takes a deep breath.
“Oh, that was…the worst day of my life".
