How to harvest the most agony? How best to twist the knife?
While immediately swapping all of them would be shocking and difficult for both sides, it wouldn’t bring the Specter the maximum yield. To swap those once connected would increase the amount of suffering, but it still wouldn’t be perfect. There was only one solution: make it random.
Force both sides into a paranoid spiral of wondering who was next, of when they would be tossed into a role they would hate, of what would become of the life they had slowly carved out.
Make the recently-turned Killers spend time with the people they’ve been slaughtering, only to see those same people take up the mantle of murderer. Allow those separated by roles reconnect, only to rip them apart again. Yes, this would do the trick.

But Julien was used to those at Castle Torch, and he knew what could take a soldier's mind off it.
“There is one thing I could do, to help with your pain,” Julien said as he stood and walked the few steps over to where Azune lay to sit beside his bedroll. The hand he placed on Azune's upper, upper thigh, his fingers pointed down between his legs, made it clear what he meant. “It would only be practical, to help you sleep so you can recover your energy for healing.”
