Chapter Text
Being a hero can be dangerous- IS dangerous. It's common knowledge. Constantly fighting crime and villains on the front lines makes practically ever injury you can think of and near death experiences a part of the occupation, a likely hood in that line of work. But most heros have powers. It makes them resilient and endurant sometimes more then super human, depending on the power. Not Robert Robertson the III, a regular human. His 11 years of being Mecha Man were very injury prone, the scars littering his body showed it. But no matter how bad the hit was, how much the wounds bled, how long injuries went without treatment and all without going to the hospital, he always recovered. Always lived. It never once crossed his mind as strange that he made it this far.
As a completely powerless normie.

What a great way to start the day. His phone went flat so his alarm hadn't gone off, his shitty coffee machine decided to kill itself and now Robert was running really late for work on Monday of all days, speedwalking down the littered back alleys of LA to the SDN, a content Beef in his arms. If it weren't for the rotund creatures demanding barks for food, Robert would probably still be asleep by now.
Of course the universe decides to punish him for getting a good nights rest. It'll be fine. He might recieve some teasing about being late from the team but either Chase or a Sub Dispatcher would take his place until he arrived. But he would prefere not making someone else deal with the HR violation known as the Z-Team.
While Robert was reminicing, he was barely halfway down another alleyway before he felt a hand on his shoulder "What the-"
He Nearly dropping Beef as he was suddenly shoved into the closest wall, a hooded man holding a gun to his face. "Gimme everything you got. Right now." The man threatens. Of course he was getting mugged at eight in the fucking morning... down an alley aswell, how cliché. This guy seemed young anyways, probably some kid looking for a quick buck. Pretty risky in this day and age when literally anyone could have powers. And it was pretty stupid commiting an armed robbery five minutes away from a literaly Superhero station. So this guy had gotten extremely lucky to have gotten someone without powers. This is what he gets for deciding to take a shortcut.
If God existed, he must hate Robert.
Robert sighed. "Listen kid, unless you think two dollars and a twinkie sound worth stealing to you then I have virtually nothing, and hey let me go and I'll consider not getting you arrested for this." He said dryly. He was really not in the mood for this today. The guy was close enough that Robert might be able to grab the gun before he could fire, but drop a clueless Beef in the process. A risk he might have to take. Even if this guys leaves him alone it leaves someone else at risk of being attacked.
"Oh fuck off and just empty your pockets." The man ordered waving the gun at in Roberts face.
"Alright, alright. Let me just-" Robert slowly lowered himself to place down Beef, slowly starting to reach for his bag. Should he fight back? Ah fuck it.
In a flash Robert's arm shot up catching the barrel of the gun in his hand. The man grunted in surprise before a scuffle ensued. Robert grabbed the muggers wrist while the man flailed his other arm to try and aim the gun at Robert. They kicked at each others legs as Robert slowly forced the guy against the opposite wall of the alley. Beef sensing something wrong padded around them making little yips of distress. Robert twisted his hand to try and disarm the guy, but in that moment, the man wrenched the gun free.
BANG
Muscle memory kicking in, Robert ducked quickly before surging forwards to elbow the guy in the stomach causing him to hunch over and drop the gun. Robert quickly grabbed the back of the guys collar, pulling him forwards and sticking out his leg to trip him. The man looked up at him in absolute shock before Robert punched him in the face. "HEY- H-how do- How the fuck did-!?" Robert quickly interrupted him.
"Shut up. I'm gonna be extra late to work because of you. Now you and I are gonna sit here until a hero comes to pick you up." Robert explained, keeping the very much shocked man pinned to the ground while he quickly looked himself over to see if he got shot. He didn't see any blood nor did he feel any pain. Aside from a sudden slight headache, numbness and wetness on his forehead, infact it felt a little numbing, but that shouldn't be much of a problem. Atleast Beef had calmed down, waddling over to lick the guy on the face.
It didn't take long to subdue the guy, tying him up with a rope Robert found convieniently sticking out of a nearby dumpster. It was a little difficult with the dude trying to punch him but he managed. Ignoring the guys curses and insults, Robert pulled out his phone to call the SDN to come apprehend this guy, only to be reminded that his phone was dead. His life is just one big inconvienience isn't it? Wouldn't hurt to bring this guy in himself. Robert was preparing to get the guy up before-
"Robert Robertson." Robert almost jumped out of his skin when he heard Phenomamans voice behind him. Whipping his head around to see the super hero hovering a foot of the ground behind him. "Greetings!" Phenomaman waved slightly.
"Jesus- Phenomaman. I forget how quiet you can be... Aren't you on shift right now?" Robert asked.
"Indeed. I was simply on my way back from a mission when I stumbled upon you! I see you have gotten his man to yield." Phenomaman gestured slightly to the mugger who'd miraculously gone quiet at the arrival of the hero. "Did you sustain any injury in your battle?"
"I'm fine, thanks. Anyways, you wouldn't mind taking this guy back to the building would you? For an attempted armed robbery and tell the others I'll be there in a few. And don't leave the gun here." Robert quickly pulled the man to his feet gently pushing him towards Phenomaman before scooping Beef into his arms, who immediately started licking at the wetness on his face, and continuing down the alley.
Phenomamans face twisted with concern. Did he not notice? Tilting his head he called after Robert. "Are you certain you are alright Robert Robertson? It appears that you were-"
"I'm fine Phenomaman, don't worry!" Robert called back.
"But Robert Robertson-"
Robert had already disappeared from view. Phenomaman was confused. Is it natural for humans to be able to walk that off? Probably not, Humans are very soft, squishy and not very endurant. And he knew that red liquid wasn't a good sign for human people. But Robert Robertson seemed to be truthful about being fine. Infact he hadn't seemed to have taken notice it either. Robert Robertson was functioning fine anyways... He would make sure to inform the dispatcher on it later, once he took this evil doer back to SDN.
