Chapter 1: Lover when I sing my song All the birds are gonna sing along

Chapter Text

Parrot loves Wifies. Even after everything went down- because he understands- somewhat- kinda.. He knew what it felt like to love, when it gets so overwhelming you want to keep them close and safe. He felt it during the Mafia’s takeover when Spoke was off doing his own thing and Wemmbu ran off to fight. Even being immortal didn't stop the fear of losing his family. But he never would lock them up and trap them to keep them safe or at least he didn't think he would.

Then Wemmbu disappeared and he understood the overconsuming thought of keeping someone safe- the desperation of not having them around. Wemmbu was always strong, Parrot never thought he had to worry about Wemmbu dying. He never had to worry about the younger one. It was new kind of torture to lose someone so close and Parrot only had himself to blame. He should have kept Wemmbu close- Should have tried harder to keep Wemmbu away from fighting. He was spiraling- nights spent awake trying to figure out where Wemmbu was but no matter how hard he looked there were no traces of the man. He avoided any mirrors, refusing to look at how ragged he had become. Wifies wasn't even there during the fallout, Parrot had left him locked up in Paragon.

It all came to a head when he captured Gambit. Gambit was alone and.. Parrot locked him up. It made everything easier- He told himself it was for the greater good. That this was the only way to get Wemmbu to break his hiding. But after years of Wemmbu not coming and Egg keeping quiet. Parrot silently broke completely- It was too much the loss of wemmbu and staying away from Wifies it was all too much. Nothing felt right- and the wars that broke out- Gods the wars… He was terrified of Spoke dying as well, Spoke never listened when Parrot begged him to stay safe- The man was a reckless fool and Parrot had to do something…

He didn't have anyone to help him.

He was utterly alone.

He swallowed his pride and entered Parragon. The spyglass laid there ominously and Parrot grabbed it swiftly- before he could back out. He felt the thrum of energy but Wifies didn't turn to his human form. For that Parrot was relieved he didn’t know if he could handle that just yet. Not without breaking completely at the sight.

Wifies eventually did- when Parrot was at his temple pacing. He still didn't know how to stop Spoke’s chaos or get Egg to tell him what really happened to Wemmbu- and Parrot felt his heart squeezed. Wifies was just as beautiful as the day he met him. Black bangs just above his eyes, his beautiful black eyes were like endless voids of darkness that you could get lost in. Wifies’s shoulders were tense like he already assumed that Parrot hated him- which he did- he didnt-…

He didn't know how he felt about Wifies, it was a tangle of emotions that even Parrot didn't know where to start. Wifies loved him, and Parrot..

Parrot loved him too but he couldn't forgive him just yet.

“Have you spoken to Mapicc? He could help with the Spoke situation and you should get some rest- I know you're immortal but..” Parrot lips pushed into a firm line. Wifies wilted ever so slightly. Parrot let out a small sigh and Wifies turned back into the spyglass. At least he was being helpful and if Parrot listened to his advice that was between him. Not the part about sleeping Parrot still needed to use his time efficiently. He couldn’t let any clue about Wemmbu’s whereabouts be missed. But he spoke to Mapicc and together they managed to get Spoke to take a break. Mapicc looked ready to point out Parrot’s hypocrisy but Parrot left before he could.

Speaking to Egg cleared his head a little bit. Egg was a good conversation, he always gave Parrot something to think about and helped seeing things from a new perspective. Parrot was envious. Egg had a great relationship with Wemmbu, he was far wiser than Parrot ever tried to be and so cautiously he brought Wifies to one of these meetings. Egg didn't react beside a sight widening of his eyes that Parrot just barely caught. With each session things with Wifies seemed to smooth over. It was like a weight was lifted and.. Parrot felt happy for once.

He hated himself for being happy in a world where Wemmbu was still missing. But eventually he let himself be happy without the guilt that followed. Let himself love.. He loved Wifies and Wifies obviously knew from the occasional moment when Parrot got flustered. No words were spoken but both knew there was something there. Parrot wanted to progress it further but Wifies wasn't catching his hints or purposely being obtuse. He knew Wifies was trying not to be overbearing, to let Parrot live a life of his own.. But sometimes Parrot just wish the man already knew what Parrot wanted.

Parrot had to take matters in his own hand. So he created the most perfect plan- nothing could go wrong.

The day started out wonderfully. Parrot created a puzzle for Wifies. He secretly worked on everything that was planned to a T. It would keep Wifies entertained but also not take too long to figure out. It was sunrise when he arrived just like Parrot planned it.

“What is all this?” Wifies asked. A small edge in his voice as if he knew but couldn't yet believe it. Parrot shook- he had a script memorized but it all evaporated from his mind when he saw Wifies standing in the garden. A warm glow cast on him. It was snowing softly, a small layer of snow already blanketed the ground. Parrot stood frozen watching the snow catch on Wifies's dark hair. Wifies was smiling softly but his brows were scrunched up as Parrot remained quiet for a prolonged time.

“Parrot?” Wifies broke the silence. Parrot coughed looking away and clearing his throat. He just had to do it- Even if inside he was internally panicking. He dropped his knees- the flowers, a bouquet of white tulips falling to the floor in his panic

“Wifies you have been by my side for so long and I- want to die. I mean no! I want to die by your side.. But you can't actually die? I shoot- uhhh” Parrot rambled. He was scrambling for what to say. It was already a disaster but he just had to keep going-

“You're my eternity. I love you? I love you and I want the world to know.” He swallowed- He left half of his speech out and he’s pretty sure his voice cracked. He looked at Wifies. His mouth dropped a rare blush on his cheeks. Parrot stood panicking as he awaited Wifies’s answer- Wait did he even ask the question?

“Are you asking me if I’ll marry you?” Wifies's voice was soft and steady as it carried over the wind. The wind which was picking up, Parrot pulled his coat tighter and nodded his head- not risking speaking after that disaster. Wifies lunged forward a bright smile on his lips. As he dragged Parrot down into a hug. Parrot collapsing into the snow- his wings shivered from the cold. His arms wrapped around Parrot's waist. Quickly Parrot hugged him back- his wings wrapping around him and hiding Wifies from view. Wifies’s head tucked in his shoulder.

“I do” A small giggle left Wifies’s mouth. Which Parrot only got the privilege of hearing from being so close. He could feel the press of a smile on his neck. Wifies pulled his head back, Parrot grinned back up at him. No words were said as they both leaned forward. Meeting for a gentle and soft kiss. Savoring the moment- Wifies lips were chapped from the snow, tasting metallic and minty at the same time. Parrot couldn't get enough of it. They pulled back, their breaths mixed together.

“Stand up? I need to put the ring on you.” Parrot hummed softly. Wifies slowly moved off. Reaching a hand out and pulling Parrot up. Parrot brushed the snow off his clothes reaching into his pants pocket and.. nothing.

Parrot didn't get the ring.

Months of particular attention of planning and he forgot the most important thing. His panic must have shown on his face because Wifies just gave him a small smile.

“Did you forget the ring at the temple? It’s fine, I can wait.” Wifies’s chuckled. Parrot wish that was the case. He swallowed down the lump and dread in his throat.

“I wish.. I forgot to get the ring completely.” Parrot winced. Wifies let out a low chuckle. Giving Parrot a reassuring smile.

“Here” Wifies tugged off the old yin and yang ring on his hand. It had been on him since he appeared in front of Parrot. Parrot swallowed as the ring was placed on his finger. The metal cold from the icy air. It was no wedding ring but- it was something- intimate was the first word that came to mind. Something shared between them. Wifies had always worn the yin and yang ring and identical necklace now it was something that was shared between them. A new symbol of their love. Parrot couldn't help lunging forward and placing another kiss on Wifies lips.

“It’s perfect,” Parrot whispered as he pulled back. Wifies who always looked so composed- cheeks were now flushed and a dopey smile on his lips, Parrot knew he had the same expression.

“Alright my love bird. Let’s get out of the cold.” Wifies hummed. Parrot laughed softly- before he got ready to leave. He plucked one of his inner feathers- a light green that looked teal in the light. He pushed it in Wifies’s hand, who gently wrapped his hands around the feather holding it to his heart.

—-

There were only a few people at the wedding. Neither Parrot or Wifies knew many people and their family was mostly missing. But Spoke, Mapicc and Egg were there and that was enough for Parrot. (Even though he desperately wished Wemmbu was here to see it too.) He could see that Wifies missed the other divine items- Even though he didn't exactly remember them. They had a connection that far passed even Parrot's knowledge- them being all forged from the same part of the universe.

Eggchan was tasked with being the officiant. Parrot had allowed him out- Maybe some part of him hoped that Wemmbu would come and crash the wedding using the time to take Egg back or Egg would disappear and it would confirm that Wemmbu was alive. But the man stayed.

Mapicc and Spoke helped set up- Even though Parrot wanted to help. He couldn't help the panic and nerves that spread through him. The venue was simple. Located on a mountain, light greens, blues and purples decorated the outdoors. There were a couple of Parrot’s and Spoke’s worshippers in charge of keeping the food and everything smoothly.

Parrot walked to Wifies, Spoke holding his arm as he walked. The spring air gently blowing- He stood breathless- Wifies looked beautiful- a gentle smile on the man’s lips. Parrot stood entranced- the words Egg was saying went through one ear and out the other. As much as he wanted to pay attention his attention was stolen by Wifies. Wifies had a bouquet of white tulips- a mix of Parrot’s feathers in the bouquet. The feather that Parrot had given him on the day of the proposal was weaved into Wifies white clothes- held right above his heart.

“I do,” He spoke out loud. The words tasted of relief he finally did it. Wifies and Parrot opted out of having rings. Parrot already had the yin yang one and he was scared of losing it.

“it’s all yours” Parrot whispered as he pressed the item in Wifies’s hands. They decided to make a scavenger hunt for each other, giving the first clue instead. watching as the corner of his lip stretched up as he held the small envelope.

“I promise to always forgive, to always try to understand you. Through eternity I will stay and be loyal to your side. There is no one who could hold a candle to you. Wifies you’re my one only. We were destined for one another. Even though I'm not a fighter- I promise I'll protect and cherish you.”

“I do” Wifies whispered back just loud enough to carry through the small venue.

“I promise to always be at your side. My heart has always beat for you. I will provide you with all I can. If you need protection I’ll protect you. If you need a hand I'll give you mine. If you needed my mind I'd give it without a second thought and If I had no part left to give- then I simply would give you my soul.” They both stilled- both knew what would happen next. He heard cheering in the background- Spoke and Mapicc obviously. He rolled his eyes playfully and he could see the amusement in Wifies’s face. They leaned forward a small press of lips sealing the marriage. Neither big on public attention. But he enjoyed the subtle blush that rose on Wifies's cheeks. He wasn't much better- his face felt incredibly hot.

The night passed easily. Parrot even dared to call it perfect. Hidden soft kisses were exchanged every few moments between them. The night was the happiest Parrot had felt in a long time and as they dragged themselves away from the festivities.

“I love you.. Thank you for giving me another chance.” Wifies mummered. His voice despite being quiet echoed in the quiet night. Parrot smiled softly as he looked over to him.

“I love you too, I don’t think I’ll ever stop”
