Chapter Text
“This is the car, isn’t it? It has that unicorn sticker you were babbling about.”
“Let it go Osc,” Logan tried to tug him away from the Ferrari. “We are gonna be better men."
“No, we’re gonna get even.”
Logan sighed, letting go of his elbow to turn and face him.
“Oscar, I told you I was at fault too.” Head and voice lowered, the beta tried to talk his friend out of it again. “I was falling asleep behind the wheel, I put both our lives at risk. The guy’s reaction was valid.”
“Valid?” Oscar’s blazing glare turned to his childhood best friend, “The asshole decked you so hard you ended up with a concussion. Do you know how scared I was running to the ER and seeing you all bloody and spacing out?”
“Yeah but it doesn’t matter, I’m fine, it’s fine.”
“It is not. You should’ve gone to the police. Rabid alphas like this should be locked behind bars, not out having luncheon.”
“Oscar, please.”
Oscar shook his head. Resolute as always.
“Either you go to the police right now, or you let me teach him a lesson.”
Logan had known Oscar since they were nine. He knew when he had lost an argument. He simply raised his hands in surrender and turned away to make sure they were not being watched - or worse recorded.
“Fine but, for the record, I told you it was a bad idea.”
Oscar did not heed his words.
It is often said that presentation changes people. Makes them more docile, if they present as omegas. Or more aggressive in case of alphas. Logan wouldn’t know, beta as he was. In his experience it didn't seem to change anything. Not about Oscar at least. Or not in the predicted direction. Oscar did not become docile or calm or whatever omegas were supposed to be. He didn’t magically transform overnight into a paragon of soft serenity.
No, Oscar Jack Piastri was still the boy who would make bullies twice his size cry on the playground. People often assumed that Logan was the ‘protector’, the one who made sure Oscar was safe. Their designations, their height difference often made people misunderstand. It had always been the other way around. It had always been Oscar who had protected him. Beat up their bullies. Wiped away Logan’s tears with his scrapped palms.
Even now, it was Oscar who had been enraged over the accident. Had been talking about finding that alpha and reporting him to the police. Full of righteous anger on his behalf. In the time Logan had spent reminiscing on their childhood Oscar had somehow managed to puncture the alpha’s car. He looked quite satisfied with himself as he brushed his hands off, coming to stand next to Logan, leaning against the hood of his car.
“Happy?” Logan asked, pulling the keys out of his pocket, ready to make a quick getaway before anyone busted them. But Oscar made no move to get into the car. “Now what?”
“Now we wait.”
“Uh…” Logan closed his door and took a quick look at the premise, “For what exactly?”
“For the asshole alpha to come back and see what we did to his precious car.”
“Wait a minute - we? Buddy I had nothing to do with this. I was an innocent bystander. But I will be standing by no more - we need to get the hell out of here.”
“Nah-uh.”
“The hell you mean nah- Oscar this alpha is violent and unreasonable. You don’t understand, he is not just a bully he is actually dangerous.”
“I don’t care-”
Oscar’s attention was diverted by someone else.
“Qué carajo?”
Shit
Oh they were so screwed. Logan didn’t even want to turn around. They could still get away from all this, but Oscar’s stance told him they had been spotted, and his best friend was squaring up for a fight. So Logan too had to turn around and face the alpha who was now coming to them.
“You- did you do this?”
The alpha looked slightly less intimidating in the light of the day. But the overgrown hair, the stubble, the low thrum of anger in his voice was still there.
“No, why would-”
“Yes.”
Logan sighed in exasperation. The plan was to see his reaction and run. Why was Oscar picking a fight?
“Are you crazy? Why would you do this? Do you have any idea-”
“Do you have any idea how dangerous a head injury can be?” Before the alpha could blink Oscar was already all up in his face, jamming a finger at his chest accusingly. “You could’ve killed him last night.”
At first the alpha was too stunned to speak. Wide, unblinking eyes trained on Oscar’s face. Mouth hung open in surprise. Then bewilderment made him look at Logan and he finally put two and two together. Logan saw anger take over his face in a way it hadn’t in the night. Back then his face had been blank, unfeeling. Now it was alive with emotion, and Oscar was going to bear its brunt.
“I saved his life. He was driving like a madman!”
“He made a mistake!” Oscar insisted, “He tried apologising but you beat him without hearing him out.”
“You!” The alpha roared in anger, but then backed away, a finger pointed at Oscar, shaking with anger.
“I don’t have time for this right now.” He wasn’t looking at Logan anymore, all of his focus was on Oscar. “But we’re not done yet.”
Oscar scoffed at him.
“Oh yeah? Well we’re done with you and your bullshit.” Finally Oscar decided to get into the car. Logan was too relieved they finally got to leave that he missed when the alpha had changed his trajectory. He came back to grip Oscar’s door, preventing the omega from closing it. There was nothing he could do to stop the alpha from leaning in, all up in Oscar’s face to growl.
“We’re done when I say we’re done.”
The alpha pushed the door close after issuing his warning. Logan did not waste any time to pull out of the parking lot. He couldn’t help but check his mirror, an irrational fear of the alpha chasing them on foot. But the alpha was busy on his phone. Probably calling a taxi.
“We shouldn’t have done this Osc,” Logan told his friend, “He looked to be in a hurry. Maybe it was an emergency.”
“We?” Oscar only laughed, unbothered as always. “I thought you were just an innocent bystander?”
Logan was familiar with this tactic. Oscar always messed with his bullies. For no reason other than to give them a new target. Just so they would leave Logan alone. He had always been the stronger of them. Mentally, physically, in every way.
“Osc…”
“Hmm?”
“Be careful okay?”
“He’s the one who needs to be careful.”
Logan just shook his head.
“Just promise you won’t mess with him. If he approaches you just ignore him okay?”
“Hmm.”
“Oscar.”
“Yeah whatever.”
Logan hoped the alpha had just spouted empty threats. And they never saw him again, because Oscar was never one to back down from a challenge.
“CS…”
“Huh?”
“His initials, I think. The Ferrari was customized, so he really is filthy rich.”
“All the more reason to stay away.” Logan pointed out.
“I am not going to run away, Logan.” Oscar reinstated. “If he comes looking for trouble he will regret it.”
If only trouble was the only thing the alpha came looking for. But he wanted more, so much more from Oscar. He wanted everything.
