Work Text:
Ken Takakura worked his ass off to make sure he could do the very thing he's doing right now. Sitting at the low table of his family's temple home, laptop and paperwork sprawled out in front of him. Piles on piles of documents, and far too many emails for his liking. Yet, he worked with earnest, just glad he could be doing it right where he sat.
He proved he's hardworking, reliable, and can get the work done regardless of his environment. So his employer was more than okay with him switching to working from home. It was strenuous work, and took so much sucking up it'd disgust Turbo Granny if she were on the receiving end. It was all worth it though. He still remembers when he was young, and went from seeing his mother regularly, to barely at all with how much she worked. Then never again after work took her health. Then with only one provider in the house, his father was a rare sight as well.
He understood why, he holds no ill will. His father did all he could to be present and there for him regardless. Ken just couldn't bring himself to be okay with seeing so little of his treasures.
With his own little family now, the last thing he wanted to do was miss a single moment with them. He cherished ever little second he had with them, and knowing he could take a break and go to see his beloved wife and baby girl whenever he wanted made all the suffering worth while.
He just wished that his coworkers weren't so damn incompetent regardless of where he worked from.
"At least if I were there, I could actually go to them to find out if they had a damn stroke on the keyboard or not…"
Ken's grumbling was cut short by the chime of his phone. Normally he'd dread that it's work, but ever since he learned how to give certain contacts specific tones, he knew when it was his beautiful wife texting him. He grabbed his phone, eagerly tapping his messages open to see what she needed.
"Hey babe? Can you come up here? There's a HUGE bed bug. I'm like, 99% sure it's one, but I'd like a second opinion."
Yeah, okay, Ken thinks he much rather have gotten a text from work now. His wife was napping in that bed!!! With their sweet little one!! They can NOT be having bed bugs!! Not to mention he's pretty sure Seiko would burn all the fabric in the house if she found out. GOD he hopes it's just a beetle…
Ken forgoes answering the text, and opts to just rush up the stairs and to their room. He was way too ready to help Momo tear apart their bedding and check their little girl from head to toe, only to find Momo smiling at their aforementioned baby, whom was still getting used to their little limbs and flailed about as she decided her mother's knee made a far more appealing toy to chew on than anything else around her.
"See? Look at the size of it! It's huge!"
Momo motioned to their daughter, grin wide on her face. When their baby girl noticed her mama talking to someone, she finally released her mother's knee and turned her little head towards her father. She beamed a wide, beaming smile, squealing and wiggling with so much joy over the sight of her daddy, she ended up rolling from her stomach to her back, where her little limbs continued to flail in the air.
Ken isn't ashamed to say he teared up. The sight of his beautiful wife and just as beautiful daughter, both healthy and full of glee. And happy to see him.
Sometimes Ken can't believe this is his life still. Still wonders what he did that was grand enough for the universe to grant him such an immeasurable blessing. Ken strolled over to the bed now, leaning down and placing his face in his baby's flailing little hands.
"Ringo, where you being a little bed bug?~ Did you wake up mama by teething on her again, hmm?~" Ken asked with a loving coo, nuzzling his nose into her little belly, relishing in her joyful squeals and giggles.
Momo watched with a smile, her own heart swelling with absolute love at the sight before her. Momo shifted, moving from laying back against the bed's headboard to laying on her stomach, joining her husband in playing with little Ringo.
"Yeah she did! Little sucker had enough of milk and wants to upgrade to blood now." Momo teased with a grin, nuzzling her own nose into one of Ringo's chubby cheeks.
Ken chuckled warmly, smiling tenderly at his daughter as her little hands grabbed just about any part of his face she could grab. "Don't tell Rin. She might think it's hereditary."
Momo busted out laughing, the sound spurring on Ringo's own unbridled joy. "Too bad for her! The Takakura train only had ONE stop and poor girl never had a ticket to begin with~"
Ken leaned across Ringo now, planting the sweetest of kisses on his wife's lips. "There was only ever space for you, Momo."
Momo softened, returning the tender kiss. "…Yeah. I know. Sorry I needed so much convincing in high-school."
Ken just shook his head, turning his gaze to Ringo's little face as she babbled up at him."I'd happily spend the rest of my life convincing you of that if I had to. You'll never lose me." As Ken lifted his gaze away from their daughter, Momo leaned in to press a deep, tender kiss onto her husband's lips.
"Keep that up and Ringo will have a baby sibling before she turns one." Momo cooed out to him, eyes full and as heavy with love as her voice was.
Ken blushed deeply, covering their daughter's ears. "M-Momo…! Not in front of the baby!"
Momo just laughed, gently shoving his face in response. "Oh like she understood a single thing either of us said."
Ken sighed, relenting and releasing the hold on Ringo's ears…only for his hand to become the next victim to the baby girl's ravenous appetite. "Ow? Yeah okay she definitely wants blood now." Ken just gave their daughter an amused smile, impressed by her surprising strength. "…Granny would be proud."
Momo smiled softly, leaning in to hug on both husband and baby. "Yeah. She would be."
The young married couple stayed lost in their loving bliss, soaking in the warmth and joy that hung sweetly in the air. A feeling that was worth every ounce of pain they ever went or will be through.
Nibbling bed bugs and all.
