“Hyoma! Do you want to meet my family after the World Cup?” Kunigami called out from across his apartment. Chigiri got slightly flustered at the request and responded “Uh sure. Where did this come from?” Kunigami answered “My sister got engaged a couple of months ago and she just told me she was able to plan the wedding around my soccer schedule.”
He and Kunigami had been going strong for about 6 months. When season started back up Kunigami didn’t cook during the week as much so Chigiri only stayed a couple nights a week. Even though they made out slightly more often, there had not been many developments in their relationship and Kunigami was still pretty emotionally distant. Which made this come as quite a shock for Chigiri.
Chigiri thought ‘Am I going to meet his family before he meets mine? I better introduce him to my sister at least because she will get pissed at me if she isn’t the first to meet him.’ Chigiri immediately texted his sister to try to schedule a meeting.
10 minutes earlier….
Kunigami’s sister texted him

Big Sis (Kunigami’s older sister I’m naming Reina): Good News I got the wedding date to be on July 26. I know it’s cutting it pretty close to the end of the World Cup but the venue I booked is pretty busy the whole time you are off
Ren (Rensuke in his sister’s phone): Thank you so much for accommodating my hectic schedule
Big sis: No problem. I know the World Cup is a really busy and important time for you. Hopefully we will be celebrating your first World Cup win as well as my wedding
Ren: Is it ok if I bring my boyfriend?
Big sis: ofc I would love to meet him
Ren: Can you tell everyone he’s just a friend? I don’t have a problem coming out to our family but I would like to be the one to do it
Big Sis: I was planning on doing that. You’re only out to me and Rika (my unofficial name Kunigami’s younger sister) right?
Ren: I only directly came out to you but I wouldn’t be surprised if Rika overheard a conversation or I mentioned something in passing to her (both happened because little sisters always find out family secrets)
Big sis: got it
Big sis: One more thing. We are having a lil family gathering the day before the wedding at 6 as a way for everyone to catch up and celebrate the victory I know you are going to achieve at the World Cup. Also because no one has seen you for more than an hour in almost 5 years
Ren: sorry about that I’ve been really busy these past years
Big sis: It’s ok I understand. See you in July
Ren: see you in July
6 months later (a day before the family party)…
“Hyoma, Let me get the plans straight. We are flying out tomorrow and landing at 7 AM Japan on the 25th. We are then having breakfast with your sister and then taking the bullet train to Akita at 10 and arriving at around 3 PM so we can get a small nap in before the family get together at 6” Kunigami asked for confirmation. Chigiri replied “Yep you got it.”
“Ok then we need to leave a lil over 2 hours before the flight so I can get your sister something from the airport. Unless you want to make a stop on the way to the airport.” Kunigami stated. Chigiri replied “You don’t need to get her something. It’s not a super formal thing.”
“If your relationship with your sister is anything like my relationship with my older sister before blue lock then I need a peace offering. You probably went to her a lot whenever I treated you like shit for years.” Kunigami responded. Chigiri slightly giggled at how accurate Kunigami was and stated “She likes chocolate.”
A feminine voice yelling “HYOMA!!!!” rang in the ears of a jet lagged Chigiri who had just exited the airport. Chigiri yelled “Quiet down I’m pretty jet la-” He got cut off by Koyuki squeezing him as tight as she could in a hug. Chigiri continued in an annoyed tone “Koyuki, please let go or I’m on drop my stu-” He got cut off again when he noticed he had already dropped the handle of his suitcase.
“Got it” Kunigami assured him as he picked up Chigiri’s falling suitcase. Koyuki finally acknowledged the person standing next to his brother “Hello Kunigami it’s a pleasure to meet you. I’ve heard so much about you from Hyoma. I hope my brother isn’t causing you a lot of trouble. He can be a bit of bitch sometimes but I promise he has a good heart.” Chigiri responded with a defensive “hey!”
“He’s a bit of a bitch more than sometimes.” Kunigami responded in his normal deadpan voice. Chigiri acted offended “not you too.” Kunigami continued with a slightly more happy tone “but you’re right he’s a sweetheart on the inside.” Chigiri blushed slightly then changed the subject “As much as I love the compliments, I’m starving and I really miss good Japanese breakfast.”
They went to get breakfast at a cute place a bit out of the way that his sister swore by. “That was delicious. Thanks sis.” Chigiri blurted out. Koyuki replied “You're welcome. I have a lil something for you two before you leave.” Koyuki gave Kunigami and Chigiri boxes from a bakery then continued talked to Kunigami “I got Hyoma his favorite, karinto manju. I got you something I hope you will like and if you don’t I know Hyoma likes it.”
“I also got you something.” Kunigami said as he went in a bag to grab a shopping bag of foreign candy. Koyuki replied “Oh, thank you. You really didn’t have to.” Chigiri added “He told me that he wanted to get you something because he knew I shit talked to him a good bit before we got together.” Koyuki laughed as Kunigami responded with a defensive “Was that really necessary?”
“It was necessary because my brother knows my humor and knew I would laugh my ass off.” Koyuki defended her brother. Kunigami relented “whatever.” Chigiri messed with Kunigami’s hair and assured him “It’s ok. She knows you’ve changed.” Koyuki added “I love talking shit but at the end of the day it’s my brother’s life. As long as he’s happy, I’m happy. However-” Chigiri cut her off “Let’s not threaten him.” Koyuki responded “Come on Hyoma. Please let me threaten him. I’ve been waiting years for this.”
“Let her threaten me. I don’t care.” Kunigami stated as a slight smile formed on his face. Chigiri asked “Are you sure?” Kunigami assured him “It’s ok. I understand why she’s so protective. I also have a younger sister” Kunigami paused for a second and continued in a more solemn tone “She has a good reason to be hesitant with me. I know I need to prove to her that I’ve changed.”
“Not to interrupt anything, but if you two don’t head to the station soon then you’re gonna be late to the train. This isn’t a European train, it's going to be on time.” Koyuki interrupted. Chigiri replied “Oh shit you’re right.” Koyuki said “Nice to see you, Hyoma. And nice to meet you Kunigami. I mean it. However, I will threaten you the next time I see you.” Kunigami replied “Got it. Nice to meet you too.”
“5 more minutes!” Chigiri yelled as Kunigami was shaking him awake. Kunigami responded “You were the one that said he needed an hour to get ready. I would have loved 30 more minutes. Maybe I would’ve actually fallen asleep.” Chigiri gave an overdramatic “ugh fine” before getting out of bed and getting ready.
The hour getting ready was well spent because Chigiri looked stunning. When Kunigami and Chigiri arrived at the party, everybody wanted to see them.
“Rensuke there you are!” Rika yelled. His mom added “It’s so good to see you.” His dad stated “You played so well at the World Cup. Being a quarter finalist is no easy feat.” Rika jumped in “and the cool goal you scored in the second game.”
“Good to see you too. Please give me some space” Kunigami said in a warm voice that Chigiri hadn’t heard since before blue lock. His older sister helped Kunigami by redirecting everyone’s attention “Who’s this that you brought with you, Ren?” Kunigami gave his sister a ‘thank you’ look and introduced Chigiri.
“This is Hyoma Chigiri and he’s my boyfriend.” Kunigami announced. Chigiri added “A pleasure to meet you all.” Rika commented “I called it.” His mom greeted “So nice to meet you Chigiri.” His dad asked “Did you two meet in Blue lock?” Kunigami was still getting pestered but at least he was now being pestered about Chigiri instead of his personal life.
Both of them were talking with Kunigami’s family for what felt like hours until Chigiri excused himself “I’m going to go get another drink. I’ll be right back.” He took his sweet time getting a drink, until Reina approached him. She asked “Can I borrow you for a minute, Chigiri?” Chigiri replied “Sure. What’s up?” They both walked to a more secluded area.
“What’s up with Rensuke? Something’s wrong but I can’t place a finger on it. I don’t watch many of his interviews but I watch enough to know the way he’s acting today feels like an act.” Reina asked. Chigiri answered “It’s not my place to go into too much detail about what’s going on but I’ll say behind closed doors he doesn’t act like he does in front of cameras or how he is acting right now. He’s changed a lot in the 5 years I’ve known him and he’ll continue to change as the years go by.”
“So that’s what you told her.” Kunigami said to Chigiri after he explained the conversation he had with Reina. Chigiri pulled the covers off himself a little more before responding “Yep. I didn’t feel right lying to your sister.” Kunigami stayed silent for a second while running his hands through Chigiri’s hair.
“Do you miss the old me?”
Kunigami asked. Chigiri responded “Honestly, I used to but that was until you let me meet the new you.” Chigiri nuzzled deeper into Kunigami’s chest before continuing “I’ve seen you grow so much in the little over a year since we got together. I’m thankful every day that you’ve slowly let me meet the real you.” Kunigami blushed and responded “I love you, Hyoma.” Chigiri replied “I love you too.”
They sat in silence for a little bit before Chigiri spoke up “This may not be my place to speak but I think you should be more open and authentic with your family. I understand if you want to put up this front with extended family but I think it would do you some good to be more authentic around your close family. I don’t know your family too well but I can tell they genuinely care about you and want to be there for you.”
“I want to stand my ground but honestly I don’t know how much longer I can keep up the act. I’m drained and it’s not even the wedding day. I want to talk to my older sister about it and maybe my parents. I just don’t know if a wedding is the best time.” Kunigami responded. Chigiri added “I don’t think this is a wedding problem. You’ve had years to do this.”
“I know I’ve put it off for too long. I just haven’t felt ready. I still don’t fully feel ready but I couldn’t miss my sister’s wedding.” Kunigami admitted. Chigiri offered “I can come with you if that will help.” Kunigami replied “Thank you for the offer but I think it’s better that I do it alone. If it’s ok, can I come see your family in Kagoshima a couple days later?” Chigiri answered “That’s totally fine. Take your time. I’m staying there for a whole week.”
The wedding was long and chaotic as Kunigami expected. An hour into the reception, he was already exhausted. He put his head on Chigiri’s shoulder and Chigiri commented “tired already, huh.” Kunigami nodded into Chigiri’s shoulder. Chigiri commented “Oh look, they are doing the bouquet toss.” Kunigami asked “Took them long enough. I love my sister dearly but I don’t understand why weddings are so long and so crowded?”
“I need some of the blue lockers to start getting married because I feel like their weddings will be crazy. Just imagine how crazy Bachira, Shidou, Otoya, Aiku and everyone else will be at a wedding. Trust me it will be way less boring.” Chigiri answered. Kunigami responded “It’s not super boring because I know a lot of people. It’s just very long.” Chigiri said “I understand what you are saying-”
An intoxicated Rika approached Kunigami and Chigiri to yell “I got the bouquet! I’m going to get married next.” Kunigami rolled his eyes and responded “In your dreams. Get a long term partner and then we can talk” Rika acted offended “You wound me. Where did you learn to be so mean?” Kunigami answered “I learned from the best.” He pointed at Chigiri. Chigiri and Rika laughed.
“If anything Ren is going to be next because I can definitely see him marrying Chigiri.” Reina approached after eavesdropping on the whole conversation. Rika commented “I do too but it will be after me.” Chigiri smiled and said “We’ll get married when we are ready. Right Ren?” Kunigami genuinely smiled thinking about the idea of one day marrying Chigiri and replied “Yeah.”
“Surprised you lasted this long.” Chigiri told Kunigami. Kunigami replied “I don’t wanna leave before the groom and bride leave” he yawned and then continued “You are right I’m very tired.” Chigiri looked around for a bit and assured him “Looks like your sister is saying goodbye to everyone.” Just on queue Reina approached and Chigiri asked “Are you heading out?”
“Yeah, but I’m kidnapping my brother for a sec before I leave, if that’s too with you.” Reina stated. Chigiri responded “Yeah sure go for it. I’ll keep your husband company.” Her husband added “I don’t think we’ve gotten an opportunity to talk much yet.”
When Chigiri and her husband started to talk, Reina asked “Can we talk for a sec, Rensuke?” Kunigami responded “Yeah sure, let's go to the garden.” They sat and talked for a good 30 minutes about their lives over the past 5 years. Kunigami was a little vague about what caused his sudden change in demeanor, but assured her that things were getting better and he wanted to spend some quality time with her in the future.
After Chigiri saw Reina leave, he went to the garden to check on his boyfriend. He noticed Kunigami sitting on a curb and sat by him. “How did it go?” He asked. Kunigami answered “Not too bad. We’re going to try to see each other whenever our schedules clear up.” Chigiri responded “That’s good.” Kunigami confessed “I’ve been thinking a lot about our conversation last night.” Chigiri asked “What about that conversation have you been thinking about?”
“I want to learn how to be vulnerable again.”
Kunigami confessed. Chigiri replied “Oh really.” Kunigami continued “
I don’t want to be my old self again but I want to change.
I want to get closer to the people in my life I care about.
I want to be more honest about the hell I went through during the wild card.
I want to be able to show my emotions better.
I want to risk it all even if I end up getting hurt in the end.”
A tear fell down Kunigami’s face when he said the last sentence. Chigiri put his head on Kunigami’s shoulder and grabbed his hand before saying
“Wherever you go I’ll follow.
If you ever get hurt I’ll be there to comfort you.
You don’t have to do this alone.”

Epilogue: I want it
“I never thought I was going to get you out of that garden. For someone who wanted to go all day, you surely stalled at the end.” Chigiri commented. Kunigami defended himself “Shut up. I needed a minute to come to terms with the big decision I just made. I’m not as impulsive as someone I know.” Chigiri responded “speaking of impulsive decisions you should totally come into our room’s private onsen with me.”
“Did you not get the memo that I was tired?” Kunigami asked. Chigiri answered “I also remember saying that you wanted to be more vulnerable. Physical vulnerability makes emotional vulnerability easier.” Kunigami relented “Ok fine. We don’t have anything planned tomorrow so staying up a couple more hours won’t hurt.”
“Do you suddenly start taking long baths when you come to Japan? A couple hours for a bath is long even for Japanese standards.” Chigiri teased. Kunigami rolled his eyes and acted offended “Do I really have to spell it out for you? Is this the one time your mind isn’t in the gutter?” Chigiri giggled and took off his shirt then said “Hurry up I wanna fuck- I mean take a bath with you.” He gave a cheeky wink at the end.
‘He’s absolutely stunning.’ Was the only thought Kunigami had when Chigiri entered the bath. Even though they’ve been naked around each other plenty of times, the gay part of Kunigami’s brain never let him truly admire Chigiri’s body in fear that his body would betray him.
“Like what you see?” Chigiri asked as he straddled Kunigami and put his hands on his thighs. Chigiri was anything but subtle and Kunigami was absolutely here for it. Kunigami replied as he tucked Chigiri’s hair behind his ears “Impatient as ever I see.” Kunigami pulled Chigiri into a passionate kiss, then pulled him into another and another and another until they had to gasp for air once again
“Can I touch?” Chigiri asked seductively as he put his hand on Kunigami’s chest. Before Chigiri could add ‘You could say no. We don’t have to do everything at once.’ Kunigami replied without hesitation “Please do.” Chigiri did exactly as he was told and touched every inch of his chest while continuing to passionately kiss Kunigami.
At first Kunigami felt extremely awkward. Every time Chigiri’s hand moved a bit he flinched and fidgeted a little bit. Chigiri at one point asked him “Are you sure you’re one with this?” Kunigami answered “I am. I just need some time to adjust.” Chigiri continued following Kunigami’s wishes.
Adjust he did. At first he adjusted slowly by not flinching as often and then he stopped squirming as often. With every touch he let out the tension in his body that was telling him to ‘hide and suppress his feeling’. By the end he started to enjoy himself and let out a couple of low moans.
Chigiri was loving every single second of it. With every touch he felt like he slowly opened the man that had been so closed off for so long. Every touch he made was one that he had dreamed about for years.
After they’d finally finished, Chigiri whispered “I’ve been waiting to do that for so long. Thank you my love.” Kunigami replied “You’re welcome. Wanna do what I’ve been wanting to do since all the way back in blue lock.” Chigiri sassily replied “Sure, as long as it does not involve blowing off steam in the bathroom again.” Kunigami assured him “Trust me I don’t intend to leave you unsatisfied ever again.”
Unlike Otoya, Kunigami did not back out at the last minute and Chigiri lost his virginity in a way the Chigiri a couple years ago thought was impossible.
