Chapter Text
Oscar (OZ) POV
Oscar couldn't believe what he was seeing. When Melena Thropp asked for him, the last thing he imagined was to be met with a newborn baby.
"I need you to take her. She's yours. I hid the pregnancy from Frexspar for as long as I could and thankfully he was called away for the end of it." Melena said.
Oscar looked at the baby in Melena's arms. She was sleeping soundly as if the world around her didn't exist. Her skin was green, but that was not what he cared about. Her raven black hair looked just like his. Even her nose resembled his. He was speechless to the new revelations happening before him. He was a father to a beautiful little girl.
"Can I hold her?" Oscar asked, the words almost getting stuck in his throat. Melena handed the baby over without a second look.
"I don't ever want to see her again. She would be a stain on the Thropp name." Melena hissed.
He held his daughter close as she opened her eyes and stared at him. Eyes the most beautiful shade of green. Oscar hummed a lullaby he remembered his mother singing to him. As she reached out for him, Oscar knew exactly what he had to do.
"Your Thropp name will mean nothing to her. She is my daughter and that is all she will need." Oscar stated, determination in his eyes.
Oscar bundled up the newborn and walked out the door without looking back. He headed back to the cabin he rented for the night on the outskirts of Munchkin Land.
As they neared the cabin, Oscar stopped by the children's center.
"Hello. I was wondering if you knew of any traveling nannies who have experience with taking care of a newborn." He asked the front desk attendant. He held his daughter close and rocked her as he waited. A bear who was organizing toys in the waiting area approached him.
"I'm a traveling nanny. I can assist you. My name is Dulcibear." She said.
"Hi, I'm Oz and this is my daughter. I'm a traveling salesman and I'm going to need help with her." Oscar states.
He leans the baby close to Dulcibear and can hear the audible gasp from the desk attendant. He stares her down until she looks away.
Dulcibear takes the newborn into her arms. "How peculiar. This will be my first time taking care of child as beautiful and unique as this." She says. A loving gleam in her eyes as she looks down at the baby. "What's her name?"
Oscar had nearly forgotten to name her. He looks down at his small child and chooses a name he feels fits her.
"Her name is Elphaba. Elphaba Oz." He proudly states.
Dulcibear coos at Elphaba and says, "Hello Elphaba. I'm nanny Dulcibear. I'm going to be helping your daddy take care of you." She looks up at Oscar and asks,"When would you like me to start?"
"Tomorrow morning. We'll be leaving Munchkin Land as soon as the sun is up." Oscar says as he takes Elphaba back.
Dulcibear grabs a bag from behind the reception desk and hands it to Oscar. "This bag has essentials for newborns. It will help you for tonight and tomorrow we can sort everything else out."
Oscar takes the bag, they agree on a meeting spot, and they say their goodbyes. Once at the cabin, Oscar can't help but stare at the sleeping Elphaba. Since coming to this land, Oscar hadn't known what direction to take his life, but now he had a new purpose. He would succeed in this world for his daughter.
"I will make sure your life will be filled with all that you need and more." He whispers. "For you, I'm willing to steal the stars themselves. For you, anything, my sweet little emerald."
