Chapter Text
<<Intro>>
On November 9th, 2021, dispatch received a call from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, about employees who were reporting the presence of an unknown and unidentified train at 23rd Street Station, on the IND Sixth Avenue Line. Officer Vinnie Harris of the NYPD responded to the scene and met up with MTA employees who had shut down the station for the time being.
<<Security Footage>>
Security camera footage shows a train pulling into the metro station. However, due to its unannounced and unexpected arrival, several civilians who were waiting for their train step back or seem to react in surprise. The carriage arrives in the station at an extreme speed, and suddenly slow at an unnatural rate, to a complete stop. The civilians around, unnerved, step away from the newly-arrived train.
The subway carriage itself appears to be brand-new, with no visible signs of wear, dirt, or grime on it. It is painted a light blue and has wide windows, both of which are uncharacteristic of typical New York City subway trains.
<<Bodycam>>
The bodycam starts within the police cruiser that Officer Vinnie is driving. He shifts it into park, and steps out to face the entrance to the metro, and runs into several MTA employees. They have the front of the metro blocked off by yellow tape and wet floor signs. One steps up to greet the officer.
MTA Worker 1: "We've closed off this station entirely from the public, till further notice. The guys down there, they'll be able to brief you on the whole thing."
Officer Vinnie: "I got a call about some unknown train in the station?"
MTA Worker 1: "Yeah, well... hard to explain. The situation is really weird."
Officer Vinnie: "Is it not, like, some kind of scheduling mishap?"
MTA Worker 1: "It's more than that, head down there and look for yourself."
The MTA Worker lifts the yellow caution tape, so the officer can step beneath it. Officer Vinnie continues his way down the stairs of the metro. The camera adjusts to the lack of sunlight within the metro. Several other MTA workers stand around, clad in high-visibility vests. Others donned hard-hats, hopping down to the tracks and observing the area around the train.
<<Narrator>>
Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Vinnie assesses the situation. A person-in-charge speaks with him about the situation.
<<Bodycam>>
MTA Worker 2: "Hey, thanks for coming."
Officer Vinnie: "You need me to secure the site? It seems you've got things locked down rather well."
MTA Worker 2: "Yeah, we're just... worried, things are weird. We've shut down all the stations on the line just to be safe, too."
Officer Vinnie points at the train carriage.
Officer Vinnie: "Anything on the train itself? Where it came from, who owns it, how it got here?"
The MTA worker shook his head.
MTA Worker 2: "Nothing. We're just as confused as you are. Guys up top are accessing security camera footage. We're just worried that it might be... well, malicious. They haven't ruled out terrorism, though it'd be a really weird terrorist attack if it was one."
Officer Vinnie: "Do you have a reasonable suspicion that it could be terrorism? If that's a concern I can have a bomb squad called in."
MTA Worker 2: "None at all, but the possibility hasn't been ruled out. We're just worried it might be."
Officer Vinnie: "Alright. I'd recommend not saying anything like that to the public, not yet. The T-word alone gets people jumpy."
MTA Worker 2: "My lips are sealed. If I dare step in front of a camera the guys up top are gonna have my ass on a plate, 'sepcially since we haven't released an official statement yet."
Officer Vinnie: "The public knows about the closures though, right?"
MTA Worker 2: "As I'm aware, the most we've said is 'technical issues'. But the civilians that were in the station when this thing rolled up probably know that's bull. I bet there's rumors flying left and right on social media."
Officer Vinnie walks over to the train carriage as he talks with the person-in-charge. The inside of the carriage appears to be mostly unlit, with only the light of the subway station itself streaming through the windows.
<<Narrator>>
As he approaches the unidentified train carriage, he glances within the subway car itself, and notices something concerning.
<<Bodycam>>
The police officer shines his flashlight through the windows of the carriage, slowly. However, something seems to catch his attention. He turns to the MTA worker.
Officer Vinnie: "Have any of you checked the inside of this subway train yet?"
MTA Worker 2: "We can't open the doors remotely, since it's not one of our cars. But we had some of our guys look in, and they didn't see anyone."
Officer Vinnie: "All the cars?"
MTA Worker 2: "I'm... not sure."
Officer Vinnie flashes his flashlight across the windows again. A glimpse of a human silhouette could be seen, but it was difficult to make out due to the glare from the windows.
Officer Vinnie: "I'm asking because I see someone."
MTA Worker 2: "There is?"
The flashlight goes over another section of window, where some blood can be seen splattered. Officer Vinnie's flashlight remains fixated on that splotch, for just a moment.
Officer Vinnie: "I see blood in there. We need to get inside, help me open this door."
Officer Vinnie steps over to one of the closed doors of the subway carriage, and pries his hand between the two doors. He forces the doors apart, and the MTA worker he was just speaking to grabs one door to pull. Seconds later, the other door is grabbed by another who is standing by, allowing them to pull the unpowered door. As he does so, the lights within the unpowered subway car flicker to life. Officer Vinnie flinches, but makes his way in regardless, to where he saw the individual within.
<<Narrator>>
Officer Vinnie manages to force open the doors of the metro, with the help of some MTA staff. In there, he'd find a girl sitting on a subway seat, seemingly unconscious. He immediately calls for medical personnel to arrive on-scene.
<<Bodycam>>
Officer Vinnie walks, almost runs, down the subway carriage. Near the middle of the carriage, the bodycam spots the figure of a white-clad girl, sitting in the seat. Blood stained her clothes, and dripped down to the floor. What was also particularly notable was her hair; it was an unnatural sky-blue, and so long that it draped down past the seat.
Officer Vinnie: "10-54, we need EMS, an ambulance here. Young woman, late teens to early twenties, bleeding profusely."
Once Vinnie reached the girl, he placed a hand on her shoulder, and lightly shook her.
Officer Vinnie: "Ma'am. Ma'am, are you awake?"
Vinnie's hand flinches away, as a sudden light could be seen flashing into existence above the girl. He backs up, allowing the bodycam to take in the glowing, light-blue ring that hovered above her head. A cross was going through said ring, the center of it askew from the center of the ring.
Despite being startled, the officer remains composed, and continues trying to assess the girl's condition.
Officer Vinnie: "Whoa! Uh, ma'am? Are you alright?"
He brought his hand up to the halo hovering over her head. The pale blue light, which was the same color as her hair, seemed to reflect off of his hand. Officer Vinnie tried to touch it, drawing his hand back as though it'd burn him. However, after pausing for a second, he tried touching it again, and his hand phased right through it.
Officer Vinne: "...The hell?"
He was snapped back to attention when the young woman's eyes flickered open. Her irises were a deep, mesmurizing blue. The officer was quiet for five seconds, but was snapped out of his stupor by the sounds of distant sirens.
Officer Vinne: "Ma'am?"
There seemed to be an expression of serenity, or happiness, or resignation, on the girl's face at first. However, when she saw the man, then flickered her eyes to look at what was presumably the two MTA workers behind the officer, her expression shifted to one of confusion.
Unknown Woman: "Who... wait, this isn't...?"
Officer Vinnie: "It's alright, we're here to help. Ambulance is on its way."
Despite his reassurances, she grabbed his outstretched hand and tried to lift herself to her feet.
Unknown Woman: "This... this isn't right...!"
Vinnie used his other hand to hold her down by the shoulder.
Officer Vinnie: "Stop, stop!"
The woman stopped trying to stand up.
Officer Vinnie: "You're gonna make your injuries worse, and I can't tourniquet a torso. Just... stay calm, we're getting you help."
As if on cue, they could hear the stomp of boots on the metal floor of the train.
Paramedic 1: "Clear the way! Clear the way!"
Paramedic 2: "Move!"
The officer moved, facing the bodycam down the train, where a few medical personnel were already boarding. The MTA workers had stepped back, allowing them to move through.
<<Narrator>>
Once emergency medical personnel arrive, Officer Vinnie steps back and allows them to handle the situation. He checks the rest of the subway to ensure that nobody else is within, and after confirming that, he steps back out to collect some witness statements from MTA employees.
<<Bodycam>>
Officer Vinnie retreats back, allowing the paramedics to attend to the girl. He turns to look down the rest of the subway car and, seeing nobody, steps out of the train. The camera briefly flickers over to the windows of the train windows, where he can see the paramedics attending to the injured girl. He procures a pocket notebook from his pocket, and turns to the MTA workers.
Officer Vinnie: "I'll need to collect some witness statements from you guys, and probably anyone else who was in person while the train was pulling in."
MTA Worker 2: "You're not gonna talk to our boss about us missing this, I hope?"
Officer Vinnie: "Nah, none of you guys are in trouble, I just need witnesses statements."
MTA Worker 2: "Any specific procedure we need to go through, or..?
Officer Vinnie: "This whole situation is unprecedented, I'm just doing whatever needs to be done as it comes along."
The footage cuts before it reveals Officer Vinnie writing down any of the information.
<<Security Footage>>
The silver-blue haired girl is seen being wheeled out of the train carriage on a stretcher. While the footage is grainy, that distinct glowing ring with a cross through it could be seen floating above her head. Officer Vinnie could be seen at the side, writing down in his pocket notebook. He glances over at the girl, as she's being wheeled away, before returning to writing.
<<Narrator>>
After the girl was brought to the hospital, her condition was stabilized and she is expected to make a full recovery. However, she has yet to reveal her identity, nor was she willing to testify on the origin of the subway train. The police investigation behind this incident is still ongoing. If you have any tips or information, please report them to the New York Police Department and the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
