I have seen the dragons on the wind of morning

Summary:

Taehyung and Jimin were always taught to stay away from humans, for they were dangerous and lethal and loathed their species.
Clearly, they have no intention of breaking that rule... But surely, the human they found unconscious, wounded and scared that they decided to nurse back to health does not count, right?

Notes:

Prompt:

Human JK (or seemingly human) is found by two of the dragons from the dragon family Bangtan and is nursed back to health by Jimin and Taehyung without the others knowing. What will happen when the others find out there is a human in their midst and how can JK prove himself to them?

DNW: Mpreg, ABO, Suicidal Ideations or self harm

DW: lost and Lonely JK, eventual acceptance, love, Happy Ending
---------------

BEFORE YOU READ:
- Thunder is the name for a group of dragons (like coven for vampires and pack for wolves).
- The title comes from "The Farthest Shore" by Ursula K. Le Guin

“Shhhh Taehyung-ah! You’re being too loud, they will find out!”

Jimin’s (not so quiet) reprimand was met with a pointed look and an arched eyebrow, but after that, they both kept quiet as they worked in tandem to make their way out of the den as quietly and smoothly as possible, without accidentally stepping on any tail or hand, or trip over someone’s snout.

I swear , Yoongi-hyung does not need such big ass wings to lift himself up , Taehyung groaned inwardly as he dropped to his knees to crawl underneath the seemingly endless expanse of black leathery membrane and shiny scales he normally would love to have hovering over himself in a protective or comforting manner, but that now made the largest obstacle between him and his mission, aside from Seokjin’s massive fully-turned shape, curled up just by the den’s entrance.

Jimin had already made his way out, perfectly able to change shape and make himself impossibly small, and now was waiting for him outside. Taehyung could feel the other’s smug and cocky look before he even saw it when he, finally, crawled his way out, clinging to the cave’s ceiling with his talons and praying it wouldn’t cause any pebble to come down right on the eldest of the pack, waking him up and ruining their plan once and for all.

He slipped once, and held his breath the entire time as he scrambled for a grip and then waited for any of the hyungs’ reaction… nothing. They all kept sleeping soundly, and soon enough, the sound of soft snoring (as soft as could be for creatures like them, at least) took over the thundering of his heart in his ears.

One leap later, and a somersault as he landed just because he could, and he was finally outside, standing on two feets and beaming at Jimin, who looked unimpressed but incredibly fond.

“That took you forever .”

“Shut up, I still can barely shift , figures making myself pocket-sized!” Taehyung grumbled, pouting for good measure while he crossed his arms and stomped his right feet a little.

An unpleasant pinch reminded him that he still had not retracted his talons; by the time he did, the pain and small bleeding had already subsided.

“Sure, sure, hatchling . Don’t worry, you will learn soon,” the smaller man cackled, reaching up to pat him on the head, only for Taehyung to quickly dodge and hiss playfully at him.

“Okay, okay. Peace,” Jimin smiled and lifted his hands in resignation, the mischievous glint in his eyes subsiding to leave room for a more determined look. “Let’s get going… The poor thing might be already awake, I don’t want him to be alone like last time.”

Taehyung nodded, and they both made their way to the small clearing in the forest just at the edge of their Thunder’s territory.

Jungkook woke up to a shiver harshly running through his body, and after it came another, and then another, and then ten others… they seemed endless, and the more he shivered, the more his body burnt .

With a pitiful groan, he tried to roll on his side to curl up for more warmth, but found himself unable to do so when his body exploded in one single cloud of pain the moment he tried. He whimpered and just hugged himself as best as he could.

He squeezed his eyes shut, hoping to somehow manage to will himself to sleep again, but soon enough he figured there was no point in it.

All he could do, he supposed, was wait until it either got better or–

“Awee, he’s awake! I told you, we should have been faster.”

“Not my fault you have such short le– ouch .”

Jungkook’s eyes flew open and wide as soon as he heard two voices speaking nearby. He was met with two faces staring down at him, with beaming smiles and gentle eyes. Jungkook supposed he would have been able to tell more about them, like maybe their age, their looks, if he could look at something nitidly for more than a second before his shivers made him lose focus.

“Oh, the poor thing is freezing to death!” one of them said in a warm, worried voice.

It felt like curling up next to a fire during a cold winter night.

“More like burning up,” the other interjected, and that voice was instead crystalline and sharp.

It felt like a cold cloth being placed on your forehead as you lay sick.

Jungkook found himself wanting both.

How could one be eaten both by heat and cold? What was happening to him? And why did his bones feel like they had been shattered and put back together and then shattered again?

Jungkook tried to voice his questions, only to find his throat and mouth completely parched, painfully so.

He must have made some kind of face, for he immediately heard the two voices panic and ask questions one after the other, to him or to each other, he was not sure. He just knew it hurt, and now even his eyes stinged and his nose was feeling funny and–

“Oh no! He’s crying! Jimin-ah, he’s crying, what do we do??”

“How am I supposed to know? I have been around humans as much as you have, maybe he’s in pain, or maybe he–”

“Ah!”

Some ruffling and moving around, and then finally a cup was being gently pressed upon his lips, inviting him to open them. When he did, he almost groaned at the relief of the blissed liquid running into his mouth and down his throat, successfully extinguishing the fire building up in there. He felt someone’s arm behind his nape, and when he found himself able to control his movements just enough, he brought his hand to wrap around the other person’s wrist, hoping his silent thanks did not go unwanted.

“Oh, he’s touching me,” the deeper, warmer voice from before said, dangerously close to cooing . “Do you think it means something?”

“Mmh, maybe he wants more water? I can take it.”

With that, the cup was gone, but before Jungkook could mourn its loss, it was being brought back and tilted against his lips once more, with more water, beautiful, delicious water , pouring down his throat.

Weirdly enough, the water seemed to also help slow down his shivers, he eventually found himself still trembling, but at least now he could focus for long enough to take in the two men kneeling next to him.

Just like their voices had reminded him of opposite elements, their appearances were too somewhat opposite. One was taller and broader, his honey-colored skin and dark blond hair making him look somewhat golden in the weak sunlight – Jungkook was too dazed to decide whether it was dawn or sunset – while the other was smaller, with dark hair and a sort of silverish halo surrounding him. They both looked at him with care and worry, but there was also something much akin to curiosity in the way they moved their eyes to follow his every move, some kind of wonder that Jungkook had never seen before.

“Um,” he tried again, and this time his voice finally answered his command, “w-what happened? Where–”

“We found you,” the golden man explained, and both him and his companion helped him to slowly and carefully sit up, quickly placing something behind his back to help him rest on it. It was a relief to find himself able to sit up without feeling like his chest was going to fall apart any minute.

“You were unconscious and bleeding, so we took you somewhere safe where whatever had hurt you could not find you… Although we don’t really know what it was.”

Jungkook frowned hearing those words, trying to make something out of the garbled mess in his mind, struggling to remember the events that brought him there, but it all felt both so close and yet so far in his mind it was confusing.

He decided to stop when he felt his head begin to pound, he brought a hand up to rub his forehead to try and ease it a little.

“Are you in pain?” the smaller man asked, leaning forward on his hands to get a better look at Jungkook. The man felt his breath catch a little when the other’s face was closer and he could finally inspect him properly.

He wondered how it was possible for his skin to emanate a light of its own, and how could it be so unblemished… Humans were never that perfect, he mused.

Unless–

Maybe he wasn’t standing (well, sitting) in the presence of a human?

Panicking a little inside, he looked back and forth between his two saviors, from gold to silver, from silver to gold. Old tales, legends and children stories rushed back to his mind, and he suddenly gasped:

“Are you deities?? Have I been disrespectful to you?! Please, forgive me if I have, I–”

“Woah! Calm down!!” the golden man called out, eyes so wide it was almost comical. He had reached out with his hands as if to try and stop Jungkook from moving, but it was the other one who had actually got a grip of his shoulders and gently laid him back.

“We are no deities, little one, relax. I’m not sure what made you think so, but I can promise. I am just Jimin, and this is just Taehyung,” he gestured at himself first, and then at his companion, who looked relaxed again and waved at him, showing an incredibly endearing boxy smile that made his cheeks rise in a way that reminded Jungkook of bread buns.

His stomach growled so loudly he flinched and then ducked his head low, too ashamed to look at the other two.

“What was that?”

The one that had introduced himself as Jimin giggled softly:

“Well, I guess you are used to a much louder sound, Taehyung-ah, but I think our little guest is hungry.”

Jungkook pressed his hands to his eyes, holding back an embarrassed groan.

“Oh! Of course! Now that you say it, the sound is pretty familiar. But Jiminie, he needs food and we don’t have any food around here… I only brought medical supplies. Which, by the way, I will need to use soon. The bandages are already dirty.”

With a gasp, Jungkook looked down at his torso, only now finally catching sight of the thick bandaging wrapped around all his higher half, stained with red here and there.

“Okay, you change them, I will try and see if I can find any food around here.”

Jimin had already stood up by the time he was done talking, and Taehyung was scooting closer, his fingers already unwrapping part of the bandages. Jungkook heard him mumble an apology, but he shook his head.

He could not remember how he got those injuries, but they surely hurt like hell, and the damp bandages were becoming uncomfortable. He was all too happy to get rid of them.

If only the cold still making itself at home in his bones would leave. At least, Taehyung’s hands were very warm against his skin, making the places he touched tingle with the pleasing feeling of relief.

Despite his hunger and general discomfort, Jungkook soon felt his head loll from one side to the other, front and back as he struggled to stay awake, but found his consciousness slipping over and over again. He could hear Taehyung call for him, but it seemed to come from so far away, while the comfort of a painless sleep was right there, waiting for him with open arms…

Maybe he was a bad guest for falling asleep on his host like that, but at that moment, he could not bring himself to think too much about it.

»»-------¤-------««

The sun was already high in the sky and ready for its descent when Taehyung and Jimin made their way back to the den, trying to look as innocent and casual as ever.

Luckily for them, only Hoseok was in sight by the time they approached the cave entrance.

The brightly colored dragon unfurled itself from its curled position and jumped up as soon as it caught sight of them, that is while they were still many yards from their destination.

Before the dragon’s hindlegs even touched the ground, they were already turning into long, slender legs clad by battered leather trousers that had definitely known better days, with bare feet that barely touched the grass beneath them as the newly shifted man gazed at them with the intensity typical of dragons.

Hoseok was normally the least overprotective among their hyungs, and would often tag along whenever Taehyung and Jimin decided to get themselves in trouble, using the official excuse of “keeping the youngsters out of trouble”, but there were times when the crimson feathered dragon would be even more terrifying than the other three together.

Normally, that happened when someone made him mad, so hopefully it was not the case this time, but still, the glare in his amber eyes and faint smoke coming out of his nostrils while he still kept his wings out to float above the ground was not exactly promising.

Taehyung subtly pushed his sacket with the medical supplies further behind his back, although he knew it would be pointless by now.

“Where were you?” the older man asked, his lips pulled together in a slightly downturned curve that resembled a triangle. At least, he was still looking cute-mad and not scary-mad, that was something. “We were looking everywhere for you!”

While Taehyung opened and closed his mouth, trying to come up with some kind of explanation, Jimin laughed casually and wrapped his left arm around him, pressing their bodies together. “We were just practicing, hyung! Taehyungie still feels insecure about his flying, so he asked me to help him,” before the other could even react, Jimin had already raised a hand and made a mockingly serious and stern face. “ But flying without a fully-formed dragon to supervise you is dangerous and reckless and stupid ,” he quoted by memory, the hint of a grin already flirting with his lips. “We know, hence why we did not go far, only jumped from very low heights and brought medical supplies! See?” With that, Jimin pulled up Taehyung’s sacket, and Taehyung quickly nodded, easily going along with his soulmate’s lies.

Hoseok looked mildly unconvinced, but either Jimin’s infamous puppy eyes worked on him, or he decided he was not wasting time on this, leaving it to one of the hyungs, or to their leader, he shrugged and finally retreated his wings, going back to his complete human form. Only then, he finally graced them with his heart-shaped smile that had made all five of them fall for him helplessly and irremediably, and pulled them both in for a hug, rubbing his cheeks against the top of their heads. Despite his silly gestures, both Taehyung and Jimin felt his muscles slowly relax, tension finally melting away for finally having them back in his arms.

If that was Hoseok’s reaction, the two youngsters almost dreaded Namjoon’s.

“Next time take me with you, okay? I promise I won’t show off,” Hoseok concluded, smirking a little. Taehyung pouted and glowered at him, Jimin pinched his side, dancing away when he saw amber flicker again in the other’s chocolate eyes for a moment. Message received. Not trying that again.

Jimin, and the rest of their Thunder, were practically the few, if not only, living creatures who could hope to survive that glare.

“Where’s the others?” Taehyung inquired, curling into the other’s side for good measure. If acting extra-adorable gained them more leniency from their annoyed hyungs for staying out a bit late, then he was way too willing to take care of that.

“Yoongi-hyung went to get more supplies, you know how he gets when winter is close, while Seokjin-hyung and Namjoonie…”

Hoseok left his sentence unfinished and instead tilted his head back to look at the sky, using a hand to shield his eyes, then broke into an amused chuckle.

Taehyung and Jimin did the same, pretty much at the same time as the wind around them increased and a loud, powerful flapping sound approached them. The grass around them quickly became like a sea of green, and Jimin had to cling a little tighter to Hoseok’s arm to avoid being swept by the wind as two large dragons, one midnight black, the other covered in scales and razor-sharp feathers that faded from pure white to bright pink, landed in front of them, folding back their powerful wings, but not shifting back to their human forms.

Jimin and Taehyung exchanged a look behind Hoseok’s back, then gulped nervously.

“Uh, hiiiiiii hyungs!” Taehyung waved, cheerful and innocent, knowing it was pretty much pointless. “How are you on this fine noon?”

Jimin facepalmed at the same time as the white-colored dragon huffed a small puff of smoke right on Taehyung’s face, in the closest thing to scoffing Jimin had ever seen a dragon do.

His partner-in-crime curled his lips in distaste as he waved the smoke away, pouting. “That was rude.”

Another scoff, but this time no smoke came out.

The midnight dragon, instead, glanced at them with a serious look and half-lidded eyes. Jimin had always found it amazing how their leader’s eyes never really changed, whether he was in human form or dragon form. No matter his shape, his eyes would always be filled with so much intelligence, humanity and empathy that even when he was a dragon, Jimin felt like he was looking at his human form, and at the same time, as a human, there were times when he was deeply focused, or annoyed, or intimidating, that he looked as powerful and scary as his dragon form.

“Sooo,” Taehyung went on, smiling like the little brat he had always been, “I know you’re angry, or disappointed , but before you go and roast me until my skin regenerates, please know we had a very good reason for sneaking out and leaving without letting you know where we were and probably breaking a few more rules.”

Jimin tried not to show his worry on his face. He knew Taehyung was smart, possibly smarter than the rest of the Thunder, when he wanted to be, but for a moment he worried he might out their little discovery to the hyungs just because he believed they would be helpful.

Before he could come up with a way to shut him up, however, he heard him say:

“I just wanted to practice with Jiminie alone for a while, so that next time we have another flying lesson I could surprise you with all my progress…”

Yup. Smart .

There he was, the little shit the entire Thunder adored, looking all small and shy and embarrassed, even rubbing the tip of his boot on the ground while fidgeting with his hands.

Jimin would have almost rolled his eyes at him, had he not needed to step in and confirm the lie:

“It’s true! He practiced hard because he always wants to impress you guys, you know how hatchlings are,” he concluded with a little smirk, dodging Taehyung’s swing and using Hoseok as a human shield. The older dragon quickly grabbed the hatchling’s arm and gently lowered it before ruffling his hair:

“Jimin-ah, don’t bully him. You are a hatchling just like him, to us.”

The white dragon nodded in agreement, looking smug and amused, while the other’s gaze softened in fondness. He lifted one of his wings, and Taehyung grinned before throwing himself at him, quickly climbing on his back and getting himself comfortable.

Crisis avoided , Jimin thought happily, only half-listening when Hoseok told them to go back to the den and help him finish making lunch.

He followed him and the two dragons while his mind traveled back to the small clearing in the woods, the hidden abandoned den they had brought the small human in. They had fed and cleaned him, but he was still shivering so badly, they had felt guilty when they placed a cold cloth on his forehead, wrists and ankles to try and lower his temperature.

They had stayed with him as long as they could before the hyungs started looking for them, and by the time they left, he was a little more alert. Still weak, but at least he was conscious enough to hide himself better and keep quiet if anything came close. He had even asked them for a weapon to protect himself. Taehyung had – albeit a bit sorrowfully – parted with his trusted dagger with the golden hilt and pretty shiny gems Yoongi had gifted him a few years before to leave it with the otherwise helpless human.

Jimin hoped he wouldn’t need it, both because that would mean the human had been in danger, and because blood was a pain to get rid of, and Taehyung would hate it if the first item in his hoard had gotten stained.

Nothing put a dragon in a bad mood like having something from their hoard ruined.

He felt Hoseok grab his hand, and he let him. Skinship was the norm among dragons in general, and for their Thunder it was almost a constant need. They were never apart from each other for long, and when they were together, they never stood too far one from another that they wouldn’t be able to get to someone in a matter of seconds.

However, this time, he realized his mistake when he felt his hyung lift the hand he was holding and stop walking. When Jimin looked up to investigate what was happening, he froze.

Shit .

“Jimin-ah,” Hoseok started calmly, lowering his voice to avoid alerting the two dragons still walking in front of them, although it would soon turn out to be pointless. “Why is there blood on your hands?”

Yup. Blood is definitely a pain to get rid of, no matter how many times you clean your hands in a stream and rub them on an old rug.

“I…”

Although Hoseok had been admittedly quiet, especially for his standards, nothing could win against Seokjin’s hyung senses. Jimin knew that the other was listening, and he needed to think fast.

At least, Taehyung was successfully keeping Namjoon busy by rambling away in his ear.

“We got hungry after all that flying, so I hunted a little…”

That was enough for Seokjin to disappear in a puff of white and pink feathers that revealed his human form. Except, his eyes were still glimmering rose gold with slit pupils when he ranted:

“So you already ate?! After all the trouble one goes through to get you properly cooked food , you go and hunt and just eat your prey like an animal?!”

Taehyung winced a little and leaned low on Namjoon’s back, shamelessly using him to hide from Seokjin’s wrath.

Jimin could not exactly blame him.

“I promise it was really a very very small– huh– rabbit. I promise!”

“A small rabbit, mh?”

“Yeah, super small. Barely even stopped the hunger. In fact, I can’t wait for lunch! I’m starving!”

“And Taehyung let you hunt a rabbit on his watch.”

Oh.

Shit, Seokjin definitely knew them way too well… But then again, he was their eldest, and the one normally providing for their meals, together with Yoongi. The two of them had once tried to take Taehyung and teach him how to hunt, and it had not gone well: he had started crying so loudly he scared all the prey away.

“He wasn’t watching, technically.”

That was probably the dumbest thing he could ever say, but somehow, it did the trick.

Hoseok burst into laughter, and although Seokjin still seemed very skeptical about the whole ordeal, he decided to let it go, instead turning on his heels and leading the way, almost keeping up with Namjoon’s stride.

Jimin glanced at Hoseok, a little guilty:

“Will we get in trouble?”

With a smile, the other shook his head and pulled Jimin closer, pressing a kiss to his temple.

“No more than the other times. You are our little troublemakers, we’d be bored if you did not cause ruckus from time to time. As long as you two are safe and don’t cause any trouble, it’s alright.”

Jimin smiled and leaned into the side hug, heartfully returning it by wrapping his arm around his hyung’s waist. He tried to use the comfort given by the contact to swallow down the sudden spike of guilt at the thought of hiding something from them all, and something like that too.

“Besides, Jin-hyung can grumble all he wants about you spoiling your lunch, but I’m the one who made it this time!”

Jimin joined Hoseok’s laughter, forcing down the uncomfortable feeling.

He didn’t like to keep secrets from the rest of their Thunder, nor was he particularly good at it. But this time, he knew he could not count on them.

The Thunder had very few rules: stay safe, always come home, never wander too far on your own, especially without letting anyone know where you are going, and… stay away from the humans.

Normally, he did not have a problem following that rule in particular. Humans were scary and dangerous, with their weapons and traps, they were after dragons’ hoards without a care in the world that the things they hoarded might be important to them, and not mere gold and gems.

Yoongi-hyung had taken him and Taehyung on a flight, when they were younger, and used his invisibility power to let them approach a group of humans to show them what they were like, so that they could recognise them by their looks and their smell to stay away.

Jimin and Taehyung had been terrified, gasping and pressing their chests to the dragon’s back to feel protected, clinging to his scales for dear life, when they saw chains, saws, knives, swords, and so many other things they did not even know, and then pieces of dragons. Wings, claws, teeths, paws, hearts

They had begged him to take them home, and he had been more than happy to comply, feeling sick himself. Humans had never been kind to their species, and things only got worse with time.

He did not want them to see that, but every dragon needed to be warned and ready, and with his power, he was the only one who could let them get close enough to get a look without being caught. He had promised them they’d always be safe as long as they all stayed together, and Jimin and Taehyung did not find it hard to believe.

The hyungs could be absolutely terrifying in their full-dragon form. And they themselves, albeit still smaller when they shifted, and unsteady in their movements, could still rely on the poison all dragon hatchlings produced, in order to have at least some protection until their talons, teeth, scales and fire became strong enough to make them dangerous and safe.

However, the human they had found in the clearing had looked nothing like the ones Yoongi had shown them, nor had he smelled like them. They all smelled of iron and death, while his scent was… weird. Of course, blood covered it for the most part, but then there was something else, like paper and ink. He did not seem like a fighter, and he had been weak, wounded and unconscious. Definitely not a threat for two dragons.

And those two dragons maybe were a little too soft for their own good, alright.

Jimin could only hope they had not made a terrible mistake by letting the boy live. As he joined the others around the small table they had their meals at, making his way between Taehyung and Namjoon – now in his human form – he once again tried to drown his worry in his mates’ affection, letting their voices steadily guide him out of his anxieties.

By the time Yoongi had joined them with enough supplies to possibly last two winters, the dread had flown almost completely out of him.

At least, until his eyes fell on the ugly scar on Yoongi’s left wing as he carefully folded it and then retreated it before letting himself flop down next to Hoseok and dramatically beg for food.

If anyone in their Thunder had a good reason to dislike humans, it was Yoongi. And for a moment, Jimin felt a long, cold shiver run down his spine when he thought of the dagger they had left with the human.

Not that much of a weapon against a dragon, of course, but still…

“Earth to Jimin! Your food has been in front of you for a whole minute and you have not yet looked at it,” Taehyung playfully called out for him, poking his side. With a startle, Jimin nodded and apologized for spacing out, immediately digging into the food, melting as soon as the taste hit his tongue.

“Hmpf. This is what happens when you eat a small rabbit on your way home,” Seokjin grumbled, but it was more good-natured than he wanted to let on, a smile already tugging at his lips.

“Is this a good moment to say we ate a whole sheep on our way back or…”

Namjoon, you snitch!

Hoseok and Yoongi collapsed onto each other while laughing, and Taehyung almost had to spit the water he was sipping on. Jimin smirked triumphantly at his hyungs, quickly chasing away all gloomy thoughts from his head.

They had saved that human, it had to mean something, right? Besides, the human did not even know what they were or where they lived, it would be alright.

Hell, he was not even sure if the human would survive the night, even with their care, he was still very sick, and the fever kept running… Surprisingly, he found himself more worried about the possibility of him not surviving, than about him showing up in the middle of the night with Taehyung’s dagger. And then he hated himself for those thoughts.

He turned towards his soulmate, his best friends before he had ever been a mate, the one who knew his heart better than anyone else, and found Taehyung already staring at him with his head propped up on his hand.

I know , his eyes seemed to say, and he reached out under the table to squeeze his knee, offering comfort, then a smile. It will all be alright, leave it to me .

»»-------¤-------««

After lunch, Taehyung followed Namjoon to the small garden the other had created and cared for day by day in a deeper part of their den, where the cave had been eroded enough to let the sunlight in, surprisingly. It had once been Yoongi’s favorite napping spot, until Namjoon claimed it for his plants. They had come to an agreement when Namjoon had added some kitchen herbs and a few medical ones Yoongi himself had recommended, but everyone knew Yoongi would have simply handed the place over to Namjoon just to make him happy.

Although he was not as good as Namjoon, Taehyung often enjoyed keeping the older dragon company and learn about the herbs, he had quickly developed quite the eye and skill especially when it came to the medical ones, making concoctions and unguents for any kind of purpose. He had even managed to make one to help with Yoongi’s scar, and he was extremely proud of himself for that one.

That day, however, when he walked side by side with Namjoon, he had a different purpose.

At first, they just worked together and fell into a comfortable pace, mostly quiet, until Taehyung finally cut the chase.

Crouching down to check the leaves of a plant that did not seem in its best shape, he stared at the leave between his fingers before finally bringing up the topic.

“Hyung… Can dragons get a fever?”

“Huh? A fever you say?” Namjoon paused to tap his finger to his chin, staining it with soil much to Taehyung’s endeared amusement. “I don’t think so. Our bodies normally run on very high temperatures, anyway, I have never heard of a dragon catching a fever… nor a cold, for that matter. Why?”

Taehyung knew that Namjoon was an extremely acute observer, despite his occasional clumsiness and overall innocence, and therefore he had to choose his next words carefully. He started by nodding in understanding:

“Actually, what exactly is a fever? And like, how do other species survive it? Like humans… do they die from a fever?”

Namjoon looked puzzled for a moment, but then he shrugged it off, knowing that Taehyung was just curious by nature, and it was one of the things he loved the most about their maknae. He indulged him, answering to anything he could, although he was not the biggest expert about humans.

Taehyung wondered about which one of his hyungs, then, would be, and how could he approach them to ask more questions.

However, by the time they were finished in the garden, Namjoon’s eyes were again on him, and this time they were his dragon eyes, attentive and inquisitive.

“Taehyung-ah,” he started in a low, deep voice that was closer to a dragon rumble than actually speaking. “Why are you asking me so many questions about human injuries today all of a sudden?”
