Sanguine Rose

Summary:

[User-requested Law fic from my Tumblr, simizzy-writes.]

“You are unlike the other Straw-Hats,” he mused.

“How so?” you countered.

“You’re bloodthirsty,” he answered back.

“So is Zoro,” you giggled. “How am I different from him?”

Law tilted his head. “This is just a guess, but I think you get off on it.”

Your grin was predatory, eyes shining in the moonlight. “Oh, yes.”

Notes:

User asked: Hey there! May I request a Law x fem!reader where Law is attracted to her because she’s a particularly ruthless fighter of the Strawhats (like, to the point where her bloodthirsty practicality is almost gross, you know?) and they start out with very surface level attraction but then he sees how soft she can be? Like, as a greeting, she kisses his cheek and he’s like *shocked pikachu face* “oh no….she’s cute.” And that helps Law accept his softer side too? Thanks in advance! I recently found your blog and really like it!!

Work Text:

Before he saw you, he heard you. Rather, he heard the screams of which you had caused. They pierced the air, and gradually, frantic and terrified Marines came into view. Their rank and file had long since broken and in their frenzy it was every man for himself. Their fear was palpable - Law could taste it in the air. But he only smiled, wondering what creature could make so much fear so tangible.

And then here you were, a pretty smile on your lips as you drove these men wild with exquisite terror. Your cheeks were flushed, eyes glazed with lust. It didn’t take a genius to figure out that you were, perhaps, experiencing pleasure from this chaos. One by one, you struck them, gaining speed with each attack. You were coming closer and closer, and it was then that he heard your laughter. Girlish giggles pressed against his eardrums - clearly out of place amongst this tragedy. Still, Law continued to observe, fingertips tingling with an almost aroused fascination.

“Oh, it’s [Name]!”

In his peripheral vision, Luffy stood next to him. His grin was wide and waved eagerly in your direction. He was trying to get your attention.

“She’s one of yours?” Law mused.

“Yeah,” Luffy confirmed. “She’s a little crazy, but she’s a great fighter!”

Law hummed and continued to observe you. A shot rang out, and he watched your body flinch. It seemed like you had been shot, but instead of being in pain, you let out an erotic moan.

“Looks like you got me,” you giggled. Turning to face the absolutely terrified Marine who shot you, you licked the blood that dripped down onto your lips. Metallic and rich, you moaned again as it coated your tongue. The bullet had only grazed your temple. “Just kidding!”

You launched yourself towards him in blinding fury, squeals of delight erupting from you as you cut away at him.

Eventually, you had completed your carnage and skipped your way over to your captain. You smiled brightly at him, obscenely unaware of the blood that was on your face and hands. Law wasn’t particularly interested in what the two of you were chatting about, and kept his expression stoic. In one ear, and out the other. Until you addressed him by name -

“Law,” you said. He had to admit that he enjoyed the way you said it. “So you saved Captain’s life way back when?”

Is that what the two were talking about? Had Straw-Hat been explaining who he was to you? “Yeah.”

Your eyes glittered with appreciation. “Oh, wow. You must be a great doctor. Thank you for saving him - otherwise I never would have met him!” Your giggle was interrupted by a slight wince. Blood was still weeping from your bullet wound, and had nearly dripped into your eye.

“You’re still bleeding,” Law said tersely. “You need to apply pressure to it.”

Whether you heard his last statement or not, he was unsure, because all you did was giggle again and wipe the blood away with your fingers. “I know! That stupid Marine got a lucky hit in. But I showed him~”

It was morbid, a little gruesome and a little gross, but Law liked the way you licked your pretty fingers clean of that sanguine liquid.

That had been some time ago, and now Law accompanied the Straw-Hats to Zou. It had been a long time since he had seen his crew, too. So, employing the use of Bepo’s vivre card, Law traversed the forest to find them.

To his surprise, you were amongst them instead of with the other Straw-Hats. After the enthusiastic hug from Bepo and the other joyous greetings from his crew, you had skipped over to him in delight.

“Does this mean my captain and the others are here, too?” you purred.

“Yes,” he said.

You grinned and spun on your heels in delight. “Fantastic! I’ll go find them now!” Quickly and dare he say sweetly, you stood on your toes and kissed Law’s cheek affectionately. “Thanks for babysitting them while I was away!”

You smelt of the forest after rain, and part of him ached to lean into your touch. Gray eyes watched you pull away, a soft smile on your pretty lips. Luffy had said that you were crazy - he didn’t say anything about being so fucking cute.

His crew was more shocked than he was, it would seem, by their gasps and hushed whispers, but Law had enjoyed the affectionate contact. His stoic nature was good at hiding that, of course. He watched as you began to skip away, only to return and rush over to Bepo.

“I almost forgot!” you exclaimed. It was then that Law noticed the wreath of flowers in your hand, and with amusement he watched you place the crown on the polar bear’s head. You gave his nose a little boop and smiled at him. “I made you that as thanks for letting me cuddle you earlier! You’re the best cuddle buddy ever!”

Saying farewell, you left the Heart Pirates’s company for good and searched for your own Captain. Once you were out of earshot, of course Shachi and Penguin had to flood Law with questions. Were they dating, did you like-like him, why did he let you kiss him - all of these questions he ignored. Instead, he only commented that Bepo looked cute with his flower crown. Which he did, of course.

Later that evening, during the rucus of the banquet Cat Viper had decided to throw, Law separated himself from the festivities. He wandered, thoughts drifting from one point to the next, enjoying the tranquility of the forest. The sounds of insects and the rustling of foliage became more prevalent as the sound of partying became further and further away. Eventually, Law came across a small clearing. Moonlight shone down, creating organic shadows on the ground beneath his feet. And there, several feet away, was you.

You had a small pile of leaves and flowers at your feet, and you were humming softly as you weaved them together to make what he assumed to be more crowns. You didn’t seem to notice him just yet, so -

“You can join me, you know. I don’t bite,” you teased. You hadn’t looked at him, eyes remaining focused on your weaving. “Come sit.”

Eventually he made his way to you and took a seat on a fallen log across from you. The silence was comfortable, neither one of you feeling the need to fill the air with useless chatter. He simply watched you weave, eyes mesmerized by the deftness of your fingers. Recalling the first time that he had met you, where you had been so ruthless and bloodthirsty, Law found it ironic that you could show tenderness with the same hands you took life with.

“Oh, yes.”

He hummed, resting his elbows on his knees. “It seems strange to know that and find you making flower crowns.”

You only huffed and held up your finished crown. “I don’t pretend to hide the many aspects of who I am. I enjoy the blood and chaos of battle, and I enjoy the beauty of nature and making pretty things. I care for my friends, and only wish to see them happy. I want to rejoice with them when they accomplish their dreams just as much as I want to relish in the exquisite agony of the enemies that get in their way. Is it so hard to believe that it can exist within the same person?”

You closed one eye as you held the crown up and up, where it looked as if it was on Law’s if you angled it right. You giggled at how cute it was.

“I suppose not,” Law said. He watched as you stood, dusting away any grass that stuck to you, and made your way over to him. You reached out to place your finished crown on top of his hat, but he caught your wrist in his hand.  “I don’t think so.”

Law smirked at the pout on your lips and the way you puffed out your cheeks. You placed the crown on your head instead, and twirled in a dramatic fashion. “How do I look?”

He didn’t answer, but if that disappointed you, he wasn’t sure. You knelt down between his legs, folding your legs underneath you and smoothing out imaginary wrinkles in your clothes. Slowly, you lifted your gaze to him, and he found himself softening like warm wax.

“Tell me,” you mused. “Does the great Surgeon of Death have a softer side to himself?”

Leaning forward, elbows on his knees again, he licked his lips slowly. “Why are you so interested in that, [Name]-ya?”

You leaned forward, too, amused at the way his gray eyes drifted to your lips. “Maybe because I like the idea of you being sweet and vulnerable for a change.”

A hum rumbled in his chest, and Law moved ever closer. If he was about to kiss you, you didn’t know for sure because in a flash you placed the flower crown on top of his hat and giggled in absolute delight.

“Yes! It looks fantastic on you!” you squealed.

He pulled back in shock, staring at you with wide eyes. Eventually, his gaze softened, and you swore that he was blushing. To your pleasure, Law hadn’t attempted to remove the crown. Instead, the two of you carried on with your evening. You continued to weave together flowers and leaves, and Law found himself at peace in your company.

Perhaps he wouldn’t mind embracing his softer side so much if it meant having you around.
