“Are you sure this is the one?” Mike asks, frowning up at the trailer. Dustin gives him a side look and scoffs. He taps the mailbox out front where two initials can be seen. J.M and E.M.-
“One for whoever he’s living with and the other for-”
“Eddie Munson, yeah, yeah. Isn’t it too early though? I don’t know if Eddie is the kind of guy to wake up at near dawn!” Dustin waves a hand and is walking forward already. Mike drops his hands to his sides and follows after him, cursing under his breath.
“He said to just enter. Cool dude,” Dustin says and boldly walks into the trailer and immediately starts calling for Eddie. Mike takes a moment to look around, grimacing at the smell of beer and what he suspected might have been weed. He’s about to open the fridge when Dustin hisses his name in an excited manner. He straightens up and walks over to him, lifting an eyebrow.
Dustin is standing by the open doors to what clearly was Eddie’s bedroom judging by the bed and himself in it. He wasn’t alone though. Beside him was someone with their hair pulled up into a bun and held up with a black scrunchie.
Eddie Manson had a girl over. They were clearly lovers, judging by the fact that Eddie was near bare and with his arm slung over her waist to pull her closer and face smushed into her neck. The position was kind of adorable, actually.
“Damn- which girl…” Mike’s joke trailed off when he caught the sight of something else. The girl's leg was peeking out from under the duvet and it was really rather hairy and her foot was big. Like a man's hair and big. Not… a… girl… Which made Mike believe that this girl wasn’t in fact a girl. Will pops into his head.
“Hey, maybe we should just leave them be? Come back later-” And once again he trails off when he sees a familiar-looking polo and then skinny jeans that none other than-
“Hold on, is that Steve?” Dustin whispers, quiet for once. Mike nods slowly. Hey, at least he clearly got over his sister, right? “Holy shit. Yeah- maybe we should back out. He’s gonna kill us if he sees us now-” Just as he says that an alarm clock starts buzzing, making them jump up a bit (a foot up, actually).
It makes Eddie shoot up too, a little bit of a dazed expression on his face. His hair is messy and there are crease marks on his cheeks but he wakes up far quicker than usual when he sees the two boys staring.
“Oh Jesus Christ- butthead one and two get out!” He waves a finger at the doorway and the two start scrambling out, nearly slipping on the vinyl floors. Eddie didn’t really look angry but he was definitely irritated and slightly panicked and they didn’t want to push the buttons.
“Holy shit!” Dustin shouts as soon as the doors to the trailer shut behind them. Mike nods dumbly, a little bit dazed that Eddie Munson and Steve fucking Harrignton, their baby sitter, his sister’s ex-boyfriend, the one that fought the commies, was a bit of an idiot, fought Billy fucking Hargrove to protect them- and Eddie Munson! Head of the Hellfire club, avid listener of rock and metal music and well- everything that Steve isn’t and nothing that Steve is.
Mike needs to sit down and wrap his head around it. He even drops his head into his hands. Dustin sits down bedside him and he seems to be going through much the same thing as Mike was. He was shaking his head and he opened his mouth several times to speak but the words didn't come out and he just looked like a gaping fish.
They didn’t even hear the doors opening, being so engrossed in their thoughts, until the doors slammed shut and they whipped around to find Eddie lighting up a cigarette and looking at them with an unimpressed look on his face. He got dressed too but not in his usual skinny jeans but loose shorts and a well-used AC/DC shirt. Yup- still Eddie Munson. Dustin swallows thickly and Mike crosses his arms defensively.
“If either of you mentions this,” he waves his hand between himself and the trailer, suggesting he meant Steve, “I will cut your balls off and leave you like that in the middle of the woods, yeah? Steve shouldn’t be bullied for this shit. And who the hell comes to someone at nine in the fucking morning?! You should be sleeping, not coming down here on… bikes!” Dustin gapes at him and slowly grins at a realization.
“You really care about Steve,” he says in wonderment. Eddie’s eyes narrow and he looks around nervously. He takes a long drag of his cigarette.
“Yeah. I do. So keep this to yourself,” he mutters.
“Alright. We will. It’s not like we were going to,” Mike says, a little bit pissed that he’s being accused of being a gossip and a cruel one at that. He knew Hawkins. Dustin knew it too. This town wasn’t one for people like Will or Eddie or Steve too, it turns out. “But what in the hell do you two even talk about?” Eddie grins a bit like he had a secret they didn’t.
“We have a lot more in common than you’d think,” Eddie says, a little bit mysteriously. He finishes his cigarette and drops it to the ground to snuff it out. He sighs.
“Come back in an hour or so. Steve’s gonna be with us today, alright? Just for the love of all the unholy things, don’t do shitty innuendos. I will kill you.” Dustin as Mike shares a look. Right. Sure. There will be no innuendos. Of course.
Eddie sucked his teeth. “Get the hell out or you won’t be in on the planning,” he says threateningly and they don’t need telling twice. They will be back in one hour, to the second though. Eddie, knowing this, sighs heavily and goes back to Steve who is surely still panicking a bit...
