In all that she had discovered in Lena, in all that Kara had discovered about herself since the two of them had fallen in love, nothing else quite compared to the feeling of waking up to the sight of Lena Luthor every morning.
They’d fallen into an unspoken rhythm these last weeks, having only slept apart once or twice since their first night together. Even now, in such a short time, Kara didn’t think she could ever sleep alone again peacefully.
Lena was still asleep as Kara’s eye blinked open, dark hair strewn across the pillow she’d abandoned in lieu of sleeping with her head tucked into Kara’s neck. Her breath on Kara’s skin was soft and even as she slept soundly.
Kara didn’t move, holding still as long as she could as she watched the sunrise peeking through the curtains of Lena’s bedroom. In the back of her mind, growing slowly more nagging, she knew she was expected at DEO for a debrief. And yet she could not tear herself away from the pocket of silence she lay in with Lena.
It was only with the slightest shift of her head did Lena stir, her brow furrowing and arms tightening around Kara but her eyes remaining firmly shut. Kara smiled, tilting down to kiss her forehead and breathe in her scent.
‘Good morning,’ Kara whispered, keen to see emerald eyes blink open.
To her delight, pink lips pulled into a lazy smile as Lena cracked open her eyes, looking up just enough to see Kara’s face without moving from her spot.
‘Hello, darling,’ she whispered back, snaking a hand up and around Kara’s neck to draw her into a sweet kiss.
‘Did you sleep well?’ Kara asked gently, propping her head up with one arm and bringing the other up to card lithe fingers through Lena’s hair.
‘Better and better each night you’re here,’ Lena sighed, closing her eyes again snuggling back into Kara. ‘What time is it?’
‘Time for me to go, I’m afraid,’ Kara replied in a mournful tone. Lena’s eyes snapped back open, brow furrowing again as she held Kara hard still.
‘I think not.’
Kara chuckled, kissing the top of Lena’s head as she stubbornly held her kryptonian. ‘I’m expected at the DEO, I’ve bad guys and aliens to deal with.’
‘They’re all trained operatives whom were handling it just fine before you became Supergirl, let them do so for the day,’ Lena smirked, rolling onto her back so that she could see Kara properly. ‘I want you all to myself.’
‘You have me,’ Kara assured, leaning down to kiss her soundly. Lena cupped her face firmly between her hands and pulled Kara above her, deepening the kiss. Kara lost herself into it, a needy sensation growing within her as Lena kissed her.
‘Stay,’ Lena grinned, dipping to kiss the side of Kara’s neck.
Kara groaned, shaking her head as she tried to sit up. Lena was ready for this, wrapping her legs around Kara’s waist only to be simply lifted up instead as Kara knelt up on the bed, chuckling. ‘You’re ridiculous,’ she sighed but still wrapped her arms around Lena to hold her still.
‘Stay,’ Lena said again, the hint of a whine in her voice. Kara gently pulled her off like one removes a clinging cat, dropping her down onto the bed. Lena scowled as Kara dipped to kiss her quickly before getting off the bed entirely.
‘You’re cute when you pout,’ Kara said as she disappeared into the bathroom, ignoring the sounds of protest with a grin and the shake of her head. She wondered what National City would make of the stoic and powerful CEO of L-Corp being rendered to a petulant child.
When Kara reappeared she frowned down at the floor where she’d discarded her supersuit the night before as they’d fallen into bed together. Lena was sat up against the headboard, one of her Saturday morning books in her lap and her glasses on as she feigned ignorance to Kara’s confusion.
‘Where is my supersuit?’ Kara said, coming over to lean one knee on the edge of the bed.
Lena shrugged nonchalantly, not looking up from her book. ‘Isn’t it where you left it, darling?’
‘No,’ Kara looked around the room before smirking at Lena. ‘Y’know I can just x-ray the room, right?’
‘Can you, darling? How impressive,’ she murmured, glancing up at Kara’s bemused face to flash a pearly grin.
‘Interesting, is this a business technique of yours, Miss Luthor,’ Kara asked, giving into the playful banter, ‘hiding your client’s possession until they give into you?’
‘That would certainly make my meeting more amusing,’ Lena nodded sagely as she closed her book to watch Kara look under furniture.
Beneath ottoman she found one boot, the other behind the smaller dresser. Craftily, Lena had hooked the suit between curtain folds, catching Kara out on her first glance of the room. All that was left now was her cape as Kara frowned around her, unable to see it hidden amongst the furniture.
‘You’re a minx,’ Kara grinned as she finally turned her vision on Lena whom pulled back the duvet to reveal herself wrapped in it.
‘If want it, come and get it,’ Lena purred. Quick as a flash, Kara took the edge of it and spun Lena across the bed out of the cape and caught her in the middle. Lena laughed loudly, her eyes bright and smile wide as Kara gave her a faux glared that melted effortlessly as she leant down to kiss her.
She stayed there a moment longer, kissing Lena without care. When Kara finally pulled away Lena let her go, finally resigning herself to her fate. Kara pulled on her suit and boots but stopped as Lena got up to fasten on her cape.
‘Be safe, don’t be late back to me,’ she said seriously, kissing Kara one last time.
‘Always,’ the kryptonian grinned before superspeeding from the room, leaving Lena to stand with her hands on her hips and contemplate what to do for the day.
Barely thirty seconds had passed before Kara supersped back into the room, making Lena jump as she grabbed her to kiss once more. ‘Just wanted one more,’ she said before going for good and leaving Lena a grinning fool.
