Work Text:

The sound of the alarm was loud in his ears. Yoongi groaned, already dreading the morning practice. After staying up all night, barely getting two hours of sleep. He knew what came with the life of an idol and being a superhero, not that anyone knows he’s both at the same time.
“Yoongi, it's time to get up.'' Seokjin came to wake him up after the younger laid in bed five minutes after the alarm rang. Yoongi groaned once more, before dragging himself off the bed. The sooner he gets to practice, the sooner he gets to leave.
Everyone seemed to be up and ready by the time he finished washing up. He gets a cup of coffee just for the routine and familiar taste. After the experiment and getting his powers, caffeine just doesn’t work on his body the same way. He takes the cup to-go because a car is already waiting for them outside.
“Good Morning Yoongi Hyung, you look like you didn’t sleep at all.” Jungkook, of course, is always the one to notice if anything is off about him. The others turn to look at him once Jungkook asks, and Yoongi just looks down, not wanting to see all the stares at him.
“Yeah, something like that” Yoongi just nods in response before walking out the door. Even though he was the last to get out of bed, he’s the first one to get in the car.
-
Yoongi tells himself he’s used to this. Used to the sounds of Seoul, from the kids playing on the playground to the screams from a crime scene. After five years of using his power for the greater good, he knows those people in need will get help. Just as he’s settling down in the car, he gets a notification on his phone, saying that one of his suits departed from the lab. Just another day of saving people without even being there.

“Did you guys see what Sonata did last night?” Taehyung asks the group.

Yoongi perks up at the sound of his secret alias. It wasn’t the first time someone from Bangtan talked about the superhero. He is one of the best ones around.
He acts calm about it, already knowing what happened last night, but he's still curious about his bandmates’ opinion of him.

“I love Sonata, he’s so smart and I bet he's good looking under that suit too,” Jungkook says his thoughts, and Yoongi can't help but feel embarrassed at the younger words. He doesn't look at the public’s opinion much, his idol job is already filled with so much criticism. It's usual for him to receive praise directly.

Yoongi drowns out the conversation shortly after, choosing to rest a little before their rigorous practice. He closes his eyes, but in his head, calculations for his newest suit floats around. He grabs his phone to type down his thoughts. It must be a sight to see Yoongi typing out math equations with his eyes closed, but no one is paying attention to him anyway.

They get through practice fine, Yoongi is dead tired on his feet. He thinks about the one flaw of his healing factor. That is, not being able to heal his fatigue. The secret hero laughs at himself, he’s asking way too much from his accidental powers. Powers that he got trying to find a cure for his shoulder injury that healed way more than he asked for. He just wanted to be able to dance without his shoulder bothering him all the time.
And now, he became a well-known hero in Korea, saving the whole country just because he can. After getting his powers, he started rescuing people, going in person, and getting the public’s attention through his enhanced healing. But his schedule just doesn't allow for him to do both. Being an idol demands for him to find a solution. That is, creating suits that will go in place of him when he can’t.
-
Yoongi missed his feeling of being in a suit. It's been well over a couple of weeks since he’s been on patrol, and not just looking through his suit camera. They have a few hours to rest before getting back to their schedule, so he takes this time to patrol. He knows it would be smart of him to actually take a nap so he feels refreshed later, but the feeling of flying around refreshes him enough.
His Artificial Intelligence alerts him of criminal activity downtown and he rushes to the scene. The criminal, who crashes a car into a bank, attempting a robbery. There is smoke everywhere, and it seems like the robber isn't scared of the car exploding. Yoongi concludes in his head that the villain must have some type of power to protect him. He wastes no time in saving the civilians first, clearing the surrounding areas until everyone is safe and far away enough.
Using facial recognition and searching in the database, he finds out that the robber is an infamous villain from the city of Busan. His name, Murk, comes up a lot in new stories of violent robberies.
It was an easy fight. Murk seemed to be put off by how strong he was. In a couple of minutes, the villain is locked up in handcuffs and is being escorted to the police cars. Deciding that the fight satisfied his longing of being a hero, he lets his suit continue the patrol while he goes back to the dorm.
-
Jungkook was waiting in this room when he got back. The younger sound asleep on his bed, and Yoongi wants to crawl into bed with him. He was a light sleeper, however, so when Yoongi tried to go to bed, Jungkook woke up.
“Oh did I fall asleep? I wanted to have dinner with you.” Jungkook yawns, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
Yoongi looks at the younger endearingly, moving to kiss him. “Sorry, I went to the studio because I had this new idea. Do you want to get dinner now? I can tell you more about the new song I'm working on.”
Jungkook could never say no to that, and Yoongi knows that well, using it as a cover-up for all of his hero activities.
-
Jungkook wasn’t dumb. He knew when Yoongi was lying to him, and he had been for a while. He suspects that it might be the older planning something for the holidays. Their special Christmas stage was in a few days and Jungkook still had mountains of things to do. One, of course, is having to memorize the choreography like he’s been doing it his whole life. Second, he still doesn’t have a gift for Yoongi. He knows his boyfriend doesn't care too much about gifts, so anything he gets, the older will appreciate. The problem was that Yoongi is too much of a genius, and always has the best gifts for him, so this year Jungkook wants to one-up him for once. So if the older is going around sneaking behind his back, Jungkook knows he’ll have to come up with something good.
They decide to go to a small local restaurant, one where the owners are familiar with them. The two get a seat in the back, away from the other tables in the store.
“Do you think you’ll be able to help me go over the choreo again later? I still need a lot more practice” Yoongi asks over dinner, feeling rested enough to rehearse in the studio again.

Jungkook is always glad to be spending time alone with his boyfriend, even if it’s for work.“Of course Hyung, we can take a walk after dinner to digest and run through the steps again.”
-
The night before their stage, Yoongi wanted to get enough rest so he actually has the energy to make it through the whole award show without fans going on social media talking about his health again.
That's why he’s here early in his lab, fixing up any damage on his suit from previous battles. He wouldn't have time tomorrow to spectate the suits or get updates during patrol. Tomorrow is Christmas and he still needs to finalize Jungkook’s gift.
He’s not the best at giving gifts, and he hopes Jungkook will like this one since he can’t really return it.
The Doberman puppy is staying at the adoption center, papers finalizing and waiting for the right time to go home. Jungkook has been talking about wanting a dog for a while, and when Yoongi saw the litter of Doberman puppies up for adoption, he knew the perfect Christmas gift for his boyfriend.
-
Their performance is twenty minutes long, and they’re on stage in one minute. Yoongi’s been in the idol industry for years, but something in him is making him nervous. His senses tell him that someone bad is about to happen and he’s hoping that it’s only him messing up the choreography.
He runs through the choreo fine, everyone seems to be enjoying their special stage. Suddenly the lights start flickering. Yoongi pauses in this step, hero instinct ready for anything. The lights come back on normally, but everyone is on edge. An announcement sounds in the venue.
“Please remain seated, there has been a villainous situation in the city. This is the safest place to be right now.”
They rush off stage, going to a safer spot in the dressing room. Yoongi wastes no time grabbing his phone, linking to his suits. They should already be on their way to the villain and Yoongi needs to track their situation. He walks to the corner of the room, trying to find a more secluded location so no one looks over his shoulders.
To his surprise, his suits aren't responding to him. The main controls in his labs are also down, and nothing is online.
A notification sounded from everyone’s phone. “Sonata, come fight me without your suit, let's see who is the real fraud.”
Yoongi’s heart drops to the floor, he looks around the room and sees everyone’s worried faces. It was the same villain Murk, from the last time he went on patrol. He has no other choice than to fix this, he was the cause for everyone’s panic. Even if it cost him to reveal his identity then so be it.
“I trust Sonata. He will be able to beat this scum villain and save the day once again.” Jungkook gives reassurance to the room. This causes Yoongi to snap out of his trance, he needed to go save the day.
He gets into action, ignoring any concerns from the group. The villain is trying to disable his suit, forcing him to go fight without it. They might be smart enough to disable all the servers, disconnecting him from his lab controls. But he wasn’t the anonymous person to create the whole country’s network system for nothing. Yoongi has so many secret aliases, he can’t even remember them all.
“Yoongi, are you okay? What are you doing?” Namjoon, always the one looking out for the members, asks the rapper who is typing on his laptop at a rapid pace. After receiving no response, he looks at the screen, which is filled with a bunch of coding, things that Namjoon knows nothing of. Just as he’s about to ask another question, Yoongi cuts him off. The younger slams his laptop shut, getting up on his feet.
“I need you guys to trust in me and promise you don’t panic when you see anything. I promise I’ll be okay.” Yoongi walks to Jungkook and grabs his hands, silently asking for permission. The younger is still confused about the situation but lets the older do what he pleases. Yoongi kisses Jungkook in front of everyone, “I’ll explain everything later, I love you.”
Yoongi leaves the room with even more questions unanswered.
-
As much as Yoongi wants to prove the villain wrong that he's able to fight without his suit, having his suit on standby makes him less nervous to face them. He knows that he’s strong, but he's not invincible. And in the case of something going wrong, at least his suits are there to help any civilians when he can’t.
He changes his outfit to something less… idol-like. Putting on a black suit jacket and his mask to hide his identity from the public. He goes to where the villain is waiting for him.
“I thought you weren’t going to come Sonata.” The villain, Murk, grins and claps his hands. “I’m glad you came without your stupid suit too, I can finally show the world you’re just a weak nobody without that hunk of metal.”
Yoongi stretches his arms, “We’ll see about that.”
-
Back in the dressing room, the members are in a commotion. Namjoon, Jungkook, and Hoseok are arguing, Jimin and Taehyung are screaming over how cool Sonata is and Seokjin is the only one who figured it out.
“Hyung, I have no idea what Yoongi is doing, I don’t even know how he managed to get out of this room.” Jungkook is trying to explain himself to Namjoon, even when he has no clue what just happened. His boyfriend, who just revealed their secret relationship to the whole group, said ‘I love you' like a person leaving to fight in a war.
“Guys oh my god, Sonata is fighting with the villain and he looks so sexy with his black suit jacket and slacks, absolutely destroying this Murk guy,” Taehyung shouts from Livestream on his phone.
Seokjin is still silent until he can’t stand it anymore. “Jungkook, doesn't this make you feel uncomfortable? Having Taehyung thirst over your boyfriend so openly?” Jungkook looks truthfully confused, not following what the eldest is trying to say. “So you’re telling me Yoongi told absolutely no one he’s Sonata, even his boyfriend?” Seokjin rubs his temples, feeling a headache forming from this stressful day.
“Wait, how do you know that Yoongi Hyung is Sonata?” Jimin asks in the now quiet room.
“Are you telling me you don't recognize those shoes Yoongi is wearing? He must have changed from the shoes he wore during the performance, but those are the shoes I gave him for his birthday.” Now everyone is watching the Livestream, eyes following the Sonata’s feet while the Villain gets kicked in the face. The realization is seen on everyone’s face.
“But we have to keep our promise and trust Yoongi. He said he will be fine, so he’ll be fine.”
-
“Don’t resort to this next time. Seek out for help, there are many resources that can help you when you’re struggling.” Yoongi bids his farewell to Murk, whose story is like most villains he’s encountered, where their world seems to crash down and their only solution is to blame others for their own mistakes.
Yoongi tries his best to walk normally to the car waiting for him. He doesn’t want to show weakness, but even with his enhanced healing, the hits Murk landed on him still hurt.
At this point, he doesn’t know if he has the courage to face the members and confess all his lies and secrets.
Luckily he was able to slip back to the venue without the managers noticing he was gone. Announcements giving instructions on how to leave now that it was safe outside. Yoongi opens the door to the dressing room where the rest of the members are waiting for him.
“How do you do it?” Seokjin was the first to speak once Yoongi sat down on the couch.

“Well, it all started because I wanted to find a cure to fix the pain in my shoulder and I accidentally turned myself into an enhanced person with super healing.” Yoongi tries to summarize his origin story without dragging it on with all the details.

“No, I mean how are you both an idol and a hero at the same time? You’re in dance practice and Sonata is also out fighting bad guys.”

Yoongi laughs, glad that the members aren’t mad at him for hiding this from them. And he explains about his suit, and that he isn’t always in there and the Artificial intelligence does all the patrol. He admits all the secrets he kept, and it felt good to do so. Having other people understand what really happens in his life every day lifts all the stress from his shoulders.

“Also how long have you guys been dating and when were you going to tell us?” Taehyung wails, “I have been simping over Sonata this whole time and now I find out its Yoongi Hyung, I'm so heartbroken.” Taehyung dramatically puts his hands on his head as if he’s fainting.

Jungkook blushes, not really knowing what to say. “Since Tear era? So around 3 years now that we've been together.” Yoongi answers for them since he’s been spilling all these secrets already.
The room went into a commotion, Jimin asking Jungkook questions after questions, Namjoon and Seokjin reminding Yoongi about the risks of people finding out. And all Yoongi can think about is the puppy waiting for him at the shelter.
“I know this is a lot of information thrown at you guys, but I really want to go back home now. It's been a long day.” Yoongi grabs Jungkook and they leave the room to go see the surprise.

I need you to close your eyes while I go in. I’ll be right back.” Yoongi communicated with the managers before leaving, and he took Jungkook’s car to go to the shelter. The car is parked a street down so that Jungkook doesn't see where he goes in.
He comes back out with a carrier and a blanket over it. And when he gets in the car, Jungkook still has his hands over his eyes.
“Okay, you can open your eyes now.”
Jungkook didn’t know what to expect, and he certainly didn't expect to see a big white box-shaped with a cloth over it. And when he reveals what is underneath, he sees a tiny brown Doberman puppy, too shy to move. Jungkook’s heart melts.
The puppy is curious but too shy to come out. Jungkook lets it sniff his hand before picking it up from the carrier.
“Hyung I don’t know what to say, he’s so cute.” He holds the puppy close to his chest. “Thank you Hyung, I love him.” Jungkook leans over to kiss Yoongi in appreciation.

“You’re welcome, Jungkook. What are you going to name him?” Yoongi now has the puppy in his arms.

“I think I’m going to name him Bam because he’s colored like a chestnut, and also Bam reminds me of us drinking the Irish Bombs in Malta,” Jungkook speaks with stars in his eyes, and Yoongi can already tell Bam is going to be spoiled.
-
Just as he expected, when they arrive home, Bam is greeted with love and fondness. Everyone fell in love with him instantly. Yoongi had all the stuff for him sent already and while he unpacks the bed and toys, everyone else is doting on the new member of the family.
Jungkook goes to his room where Yoongi is setting up Bam’s bed.
“You are too good at gift-giving, how did you even find a Doberman puppy for me?”

They sit on the bed, and Yoongi pulls him in close. “I just got lucky.”

They stay in comfortable silence for a while, until Jungkook speaks up. “I was really worried about you today, you know?” Of course, the events of Jungkook seeing Sonata fighting when he knows it's his boyfriend out there stayed on his mind.

“And, I’m sorry about that. I promise no more secrets, and I’ll tell you everything you want to know.” Yoongi holds him even tighter, feeling the regrets of making everyone worry. He just wanted to do what he loves, and to also be a good person to help others.

“No, no. It’s fine I understand, you needed it to be a secret to keep everyone safe.” Jungkook holds Yoongi’s face by the sides, making the older look straight at his face. “I just ask that whenever you go out to ‘patrol’ you tell me and keep me updated too. I just want to know that you’re okay.”
Yoongi nods, not being able to speak with his face being squished by the younger’s hands. Jungkook gave him a kiss, and at that moment a knock came from the door.

“You guys are cute, close the door next time and come out Taehyung wants Bam to meet Tan.” Seokjin walks away, ready to tell everyone what he saw Yoongi and Jungkook doing. Jungkook runs after the eldest, ready to deny everything that Seokjin speaks from his mouth.
