He locked eyes with her, silently nodding. He hoped it would make her feel better. Confirmations, right or wrong, true or false, always made him light up with hope. The time his grandma was diagnosed with cancer, he was scared. But now they knew what was wrong with her. They could fix her. He had faith in the doctors.
She passed away a few months later.
Shortly after that, he visited his local pediatrician. His mom was good friends with his doctor, that actually being the reason his parents met. He knew not all people could be saved, including his grandmother, but this doctor was different. He had trust in this doctor. He knew Dad after all.
That exact doctor told him he was quirkless. In that very moment, is when he realized how cruel society was. That every answer isn't all cheery and bright.
Maybe Uraraka was having that realization, too.
“You... have— this is some joke, right? It's not real...” she turned away, covering her face.
She didn't need to hide her pretty face, he already knew she was crying. Midoriya softened his expression. ”You're okay, you can trust me. It's going to be fine.” He cooed, gently swiping his thumb across her wet cheek.
“Midoriya!” Todoroki shouted, "Uraraka, do not listen to him! Get away from him, NOW!"
She froze. “But!-"
"NOW!"
She sprinted into his arms before a thick wall of ice was placed in between them and Midoriya.
He powered up One for All and shattered the wall with his fist, but it was too late. His classmates regrouped. Luckily for him, backup would be arriving soon. He observed his surroundings, trying to make use of trees and terrain. They would have a disadvantage without their hero costumes because of the mud piles and hills. Unfortunately for him, he had a bigger problem. Mr. Aizawa had arrived.
“Midoriya!” he turned to his teacher, “you are on the wrong side of this! What in the world are you doing?”
“What I do best, Sensei. Fighting for what I believe in.”
His classmates stare at him vaguely, not sure what to make of his words when suddenly the League of Villains appeared from behind him.
“Uraraka,” Mr. Aizawa spoke out gently to her. “What exactly happened while I was gone?“
