Summary
Sonic the Hedgehog is a speedster, a part of that includes having a super-fast metabolism. Unfortunately, having a metabolism like that and a brain at the same time makes for an unfun combination sometimes.
Or: Sonic struggles with food sometimes. Shadow helps. That last bit surprises them both — but maybe it shouldn’t.

Summary
Rouge is woken up by the sound of her phone.
She had come home roughly two hours ago, exhausted by a two month recon mission, where she had countless sleepless nights and no comfort. She practically fell into her bed after her bath. Her fur was still damp when she drifted to sleep, the small TV in her room still on.
So naturally, she was curious as to who the fuck was calling her at 3 AM.
Especially because she knows everyone was told that she would be exhausted and tired, and she’s not the nicest when there’s a combo of those two things. She groans as she stretches, her back and neck aching. She must have gone to sleep in a shitty position. It takes her too long to reach and get her phone, the caller not deterring from her inability to answer in a timely manner. Her nails tap the screen as she answers, rubbing her eyes of sleep, and frustration.
“Blue, you better have a damn good reason to be waking me up right now.”
“I know, I’m sorry. But can you check on Shadow?”

Sonic’s mind raced with fear and uncertainty as they placed him inside and secured him with restraints.
The vehicle roared to life, its engine a deep, menacing growl. As they sped away, Sonic’s thoughts were a whirlwind of despair. Longclaw’s sacrifice, the loss of his home, and now, being captured by these unknown forces—his world had been turned upside down.

In just two weeks after the Eclipse Cannon explosion, everything has seemed to go back to normal. Green Hills is safe, and Tom’s injuries will be fully healed in a couple more weeks now, so his family is safe, too. And overall, they haven’t seemed to dwell too much on everything that had happened. At least, not anymore.
But Sonic hasn’t stopped thinking about it. His mind seems to run faster than he can nowadays, and he really can’t keep up no matter how hard he tries.”

Basically a mix of all my favorite live-action sonadow tropes I’ve been seeing and based off ideas I’ve read in other fics I’ve enjoyed. My own take on the ‘Sonic misses Shadow and then Shadow reappears and they have to hide that they’re meeting each other and slowly falling in love’ thing, if you will.

Shadow tries not to feel too disappointed when he wakes up on Earth, in the middle of a large crater in a forest of evergreens, alive and in enough pain that his breath stutters in his chest.
He doesn’t get to die, he thinks, nearly reduced to tears as he stares at the blue sky and tries to remember how to breathe.
This is atonement. He doesn’t get to get away from his pain this easily.
Or; an exploration of Shadow's grief and guilt and fear.
Or; Shadow is no longer property, and he does not know what to do with this knowledge that feels more constricting than freeing.
