Summary
The automatic door of the lift is almost closed when a hand quickly pushes it back and Dr. Langdon very unceremoniously enters. Mel is a little stunned, and she jumps backwards-old habits die hard.
‘Sorry, it’s me, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you’, he apologizes.
‘No problem, I just-it’s a reflex. It’s fine’, she tells him, while she nervously clasps her hands around her phone for just a moment, and then confirms her ride. And then again, silence that's thick as honey. She’s uncomfortable and she’s upset that she's uncomfortable, and she’s exhausted. So, Mel? Not having a good time right now. She doesn’t want to make him uncomfortable, and if she were just a bit lucky, darkness would swallow her up whole. No dice.
And the worst part is she can already tell this is not a Halloween thing, or a fatigue thing, this is something else entirely, but she can’t-she won’t put it the name it’s aching to be named with.
