Summary
When Cas became a human, Dean turned him away; first to protect Sam, then to keep Cas out of the world-ending mess that followed the Winchesters around, then because he was too ashamed to make things right. But Sam’s settled down with Eileen, the world looks like it won’t be ending any time soon, and Dean’s running out of excuses.
Cas isn’t happy to see him, but he reluctantly agrees to work together to get to the bottom of some strange deaths happening in his new hometown. Dean’s willing to do anything to apologize and see if he has a chance at fixing what broke between them all those years ago.

Summary
Breathe, Dean told himself, breathe. Seven in, hold, seven out. Seven in, hold, seven out. Seven in…...
Dean thought of the sea. He’d met Cas on the Pacific shore once, on a day where the sun was dim, and the gray clouds blotted the sky. Cas had told him it was the only place they wouldn’t be overheard. He’d found the angel beside the sea-rotten wood of a fallen tree, watching a baby sea turtle scramble helplessly towards the sea. He hadn’t helped. Simply observed.
That was a long time ago. Dean had barely known Cas back then. It’d made him so confused, to watch the angel stand so still and look out towards the sea. It was something so human, but looked so wrong when done by something who didn’t sway and dance with the sea breeze in the way only a human could. It’d made him angry.Maybe it’d made Cas angry, too. What Dean had failed to realize back then, and many moments afterwards, was that Castiel was a living tangle of the threads of anger and desire and love, unable and forbidden from lamenting what could and couldn’t be. On that beach, they’d both been the same.
------
Dean can't leave Cas alone. Not for anything.

Summary
Castiel didn't expect to be rescued from the Empty, yet here he is. Presented with the chance from an unanticipated ally, there's only one small problem - to return to heaven, he must leave his body behind and rejoin the Host in his trueform; a state he hasn't been in for a prolonged period of time since first rescuing Dean Winchester from hell.
Quick to take on the challenge, he rapidly finds himself underestimating the impact his time on earth has left on him. Struggling with his sense of identity and fearing he's lost his humanity, Cas visits old haunts and seeks guidance, trying to come to terms with his new existence.

Summary
‘It may be uncomfortable for you though,’ Castiel says.
Dean looks up. ‘How?’
Castiel pushes back against the table and wets his lips. His fingers are cold as he runs a hand through his soggy hair and shifts in his damp trousers. He’s miserable, but he’d rather this than that not-feeling, black vacuum. He can’t believe he’s found a place worse than those human nights in dark alleys. At least he felt alive in those.
‘You don’t like it when I push the boundaries,’ he says.
Or: Castiel comes back from the Empty with a budding mirror obsession, too many eyes, and willingness to push Dean.
