Summary
‘It may be uncomfortable for you though,’ Castiel says.
Dean looks up. ‘How?’
Castiel pushes back against the table and wets his lips. His fingers are cold as he runs a hand through his soggy hair and shifts in his damp trousers. He’s miserable, but he’d rather this than that not-feeling, black vacuum. He can’t believe he’s found a place worse than those human nights in dark alleys. At least he felt alive in those.
‘You don’t like it when I push the boundaries,’ he says.
Or: Castiel comes back from the Empty with a budding mirror obsession, too many eyes, and willingness to push Dean.

Summary
‘The unfortunate thing is,’ Castiel says, ‘without this boundary clearly stated, or not there at all, I don’t feel like I’ve made it out. I’m untethered. I can’t feel my vessel. I’m worried that I may fall through the floor if I step wrong or that the next time I turn a corner I’ll be back there.’
‘Yeah,’ Dean says. His eyes are glossy. ‘You and me both.’ He leans back in his chair and runs a palm down his face as he looks up at the ceiling. The bones of him are cut in a diamond-blue shine. ‘How can there be anything at all if you’re always waiting for the next time you disappear?’
Castiel tilts his head.
Dean stands. ‘I’ll go get you water.’
Or: what was fantastic, Castiel finds, becomes a hinderance. He doesn't believe he's escaped the Empty.
