Summary
He goes back to New York because, at the end of it all, he doesn’t know what else to do.
Nothing in him yearns for the city, for his wife, for the place he has lived for so long now but never once truly called home. None of that matters, though. Surprisingly or not, Eddie is the last to leave – save for Mike, who he thinks only stays around so long to make sure that Eddies does actually leave. The fact that he doesn’t immediately bolt for the comfort of his home city when they finally kill the clown is probably more telling than anything else. He’s willing to wait around in Derry for two days longer, as though somehow the time will make his return better, rather than worse.
Or: Eddie returns to New York after the losers defeat It, and tries to learn a little about himself.

He thought the date would be a good idea. Actually, to be honest, at first he thought the date was a weird idea. The idea of going on a first date with a man he has known since they were snotty-nosed fifth-graders, now fully thirty-odd years later, when Eddie has been previously married and also has been making out with this same man on couches and in cars and against unsuspecting kitchen counters for four weeks, struck him as distinctly strange. But Richie really seemed to want to. And Eddie admittedly likes the Listen-I-Just-Thought-About-It-A-Lot-As-A-Kid-Okay of it all. It’s cute. And kind of romantic.
What Eddie did not take into account was Richie dressed for a date.

Three months later, he gets blackmailed by a scuzzy L.A gossip hound and everything gets fucked up all over again.
“And it had all been great, easy breezy and what the kids called no-strings-attached except for that one string, the huge tangled string of Richie being desperately in love, the same string that had eventually wrapped around his neck and was half choking him to death by the time he called it off.

Unable to speak, Stan lifted his hand and stared at his stained fingers in shock. His brain, already frazzled, could not bring itself to understand. The implications did not add up. This was Eddie Kaspbrak, the world's most invincible man. There was only one thing that could hurt Eddie, and that man would rather die than watch Eddie bleed.
But there was blood on Stan's hands all the same.
