In that instant, twenty years’ worth of memory fragments—the sunset over wheat fields, a long-healed scar on his chest that suddenly burned anew, lyrics on a phone screen, the roar of fighter jets—threatened to burst through the floodgates. After the reel of memories flashed through his mind, he finally replied:
“But what is destroyed can also be rebuilt. Isn’t Kremnos Corporate better now than it was before?”
Mydei grinned and planted one fierce kiss after another on him. “Of course! I’m way better than Eurypon!”
