(adam can see his future. it doesn’t really change anything.)

Summary
There’s a folding table set up outside Classroom C lined with bakery boxes. Real ones. White cardboard tied with twine. Blueberry muffins the size of softballs. Croissants. Something glazed and citrusy. A cardboard carrier of coffee cups.
A cluster of recruits hover nearby, trying to look casual and failing.
Eddie glances at their academy shirts, still too stiff from being new. “What’s the occasion?” he asks.
One of them straightens. “Oh—it’s Muffin Guy.”
Eddie pauses. “I’m sorry. It’s who?”
“Muffin Guy,” another recruit says, like that should mean something.
Eddie waits.
They exchange looks.
“They say he brings stuff the first week,” someone explains. “Not every day. Just… sometimes.”
“He an instructor?” Eddie asks.
A few shake their heads. “Nah. He’s a firefighter.”
“From where?”
Shrugs.
“He never says.”

Summary
Eddie’s eyes were studying Buck’s face, and whatever he saw there made him say, “there’s no way you can keep this from Maddie.”
“No,” Buck folded immediately. “I could try, but . . .”
Eddie’s mouth quirked into a smile, showing a dimple, and it was literally heroic of Buck to leave the house with all that going on. “Tell Maddie,” Eddie offered. “Swear her to secrecy. And we’ll just keep it to ourselves until Chris is back on Friday.”
He was so smart. His best friend was so smart and also wanted to kiss him and also said they were practically engaged.
“Good plan,” said Buck, fighting gravity to continue his way out the door. “It’s just one week. How hard could it be?”
---
On a very normal Sunday, Buck and Eddie confess their feelings for each other; what follows is a week of the least normal behavior the LAFD has ever seen.

Summary
Buck knows the story the same way all Buckley witches know the story: Maria Buckley, née Owens, had doomed the firstborn son of every Buckley to die before his tenth birthday.
Buck was born just two minutes after Daniel.
It was long enough.
*
OR: Buck wishes for a kid so bad he lowkey summons Christopher Diaz to LA. This would be fine, probably, if it weren't for Christopher's extremely hot police detective dad, the sudden reappearance of Buck's sister, and of course the whole 'accidental murder' thing.
