The customer hums, perhaps in approval, perhaps not. Either way, Tommy knows what comes next. The keeper will wrench back the cloth that covers his cage, and whatever rich asshole that's standing on the other side will gape and gawk and take a few large steps back. The light will hurt his eyes, and his chains will rattle when he shifts against the back wall, and the keeper will try to get the customer to purchase him. The customer will look at him with only disgust.
The curtain will close. He will be alone again.
In the beginning Tommy would hiss and gnash his teeth like a wild beast. His fists would slam against the metal bars and he would howl, and all those cowards would go running. It was so satisfying, watching their faces curl with fear as they turned and ran.
Now there isn’t enough room to even wiggle around the cuffs and straps that press into him. His own cocoon of metal and leather, just a whim away from strangling him if someone sees fit.

Tommy is used to his mum being gone for a while. It was a familiar routine now; his mum would find a spot of the pebbled beach for Tommy to nestle into, kiss the top of his head, and he would spend the next few days collecting shiny rocks or playing with the seabirds that liked to tease him. She would come home with fresh fish for the both of them to share, and in a few days the cycle would repeat again.

It's pure instinct that sends Tommy scrambling away from the door as a streak of light punches a hole through the solid wood where Tommy's chest had been moments before. There's a gasp, loose papers shifting, and with a thunk thunk thunk three more daggers of solid light smash into the wall as Tommy continues to push himself back. Distantly, Tommy thinks about how cool it would be to see dreams powers up close, if they weren't aimed for his head.
