Os dedos tocaram as duplas quase por instinto, frios demais para aquela hora da manhã. A mulher estremeceu, os ombros tensionando de imediato. Ela virou o rosto na direção dele com um olhar atravessado, ainda pesado de sono, mas já carregado de irritação. Jane quase riu.

Ela nunca se animava com datas festivas. Ainda assim, havia algo quase irônico em como seu rosto bonito combinava com o clima místico que cercava o Natal. Lisbon daria facilmente uma ajudante do Papai Noel. Jane, é claro, percebeu isso. E achou engraçado. Muito engraçado.
Lisbon fugiu da CBI assim que o expediente terminou, decidida a ignorar a confraternização e qualquer tentativa de envolvimento natalino. Jane percebeu. Ele também não gostava de confraternizações. Mas gostava dela. E, naquela véspera de Natal, a ideia de dividir algumas horas ao lado de Teresa parecia ótima. Muito, muito boa.

“But,” her protest is instinctual, “you spoke with my mother.”
Teresa Lisbon was sixteen years old when she met Patrick at a carnival on the outskirts of Chicago. Now, at thirty-two, Patrick reappears at her job, grieving the loss of his wife and child to serial killer Red John and completely oblivious to the existence of their fifteen-year-old daughter.
