His dream that night is one of the same.
He’s surrounded by spikes and curls of colours, all of them gleaming with heartrending, surreal brilliance of the underwater light. Fear roots him where he stands. Fear, and confounding fascination. He can’t see the faces of the few people who stand with him, but he already knows that, when he wakes up from the dream with his pounding heart, he’ll miss them fiercely, like how one would with missing limbs. Or missing fragments of his very soul.

The second problem is that Mulder knows that and doesn’t seem to care.
Whatever his motive, young billionaires don’t just run around pretending to be interns for no reason, and that’s a case to solve in itself.
(Or, Bruce Wayne had to learn profiling from somebody— why not the best?)
