“No,” Carol cut her off and kept walking.
“Please.” Vesper insisted. “You’ve seen how quiet I can be. I won’t get in the way.”
Carol stopped, then turned around and stared at her for a moment.
“Please, Carol. I’ve been on my own for years, I know how to stay quiet. I can’t stay here with that man, and Tyrese can take care of Judith,” she pleaded.
Carol stayed silent, looking at her with a twinge of understanding in her eye; Vesper got the feeling that she knew the desperation in her voice all too well.
“Fine.” Carol finally gave in. The tension in Vesper’s shoulders released, her bow falling against her back again. “Stay behind me, and don’t make a sound.
