The issue is that Anne doesn’t know how to refuse Hammond-family dinner without explaining why, and she doesn’t know how to explain without saying, "Every time I go to dinner at your mother’s house I spend the next five days seriously considering ending our engagement." That’s probably followed by, "You and I have completely different ideas of what it means for dinner to ‘go well’ because I’d honest to God take your brother on his worst day over your mother on her worst day every single time."

“I don’t have a problem!” Sam insists. “Bucky is not a problem. Bucky is on a beautiful journey of self-care and healing and making amends with his body, and I support him 100%.”
“Mmhmm,” says Sarah, and when Sam can tear his gaze away from Bucky, he sees that she’s fixing him with a sweetly compassionate gaze. He readies himself for some no-nonsense sisterly wisdom. In tones of deep sympathy, she says, “And you’re horny about it.”
Sam grits his teeth and grips the arms of his lounge chair. “I’m so horny about it, oh my god.”
Bucky is finally ready to make amends with himself, and specifically his body, but he might need to enlist some help. If that help involves kind of, sort of tricking an overworked Sam into doing some self-care and having some fun of his own, so much the better. Sam, meanwhile, is happy to help, it's just that helping Bucky is turning out to have the inconvenient side effect of falling for him too.

Bucky didn't want much. Just to keep his head down, to sell his scavenged flowers in peace, and to stay off Shield's radar. His life would have been a lot easier if his flowers weren't dead and if being a necromancer wasn't illegal, but easy or not, he was getting by. Steve didn't want much, either. He was happy working for Shield, he had good friends, and overall his life was going just about the way he wanted it. Problem was, being happy with your life was generally an invitation for fate to throw a spanner in the works—and in Steve's specific case, it was going to be a spanner named Bucky.

“You’re here for Riley.”
Sam inhales, sharp, painful. Someone saying Riley’s name still hurts sometimes, especially when Sam isn’t expecting it, isn’t braced for it. Even though Sam has been speaking about him, he certainly wasn’t expecting to hear Riley’s name from Barnes’s lips. Sam nods, as best he can with Barnes’s hand against his throat.
Sam’s been searching for Barnes for months, constantly moving, one city to the next, barely a chance to breathe. But all his leads trail off into nothing or slam into dead-ends. Sick of the never-ending failure, tired of visiting all these amazing places yet seeing nothing of them, he takes a vacation day, takes a trip to somewhere Riley always wanted to go. And maybe there’s some truth to it’s always in the last place you’d look.
