The immediate follow up text, I may have accidentally gone into rut has him racing to the door, shouting over his shoulder at Hop that he’s dipping out early for the night. Hop, who had been drying glasses and setting them in a precise line along the bar top display, waves his rag in the air and yells, “whatever Munson,” though Eddie is already too far out the door to hear it.
The third text arrives just as he clambers into the van and is substantially less coherent. It simply reads hornee, are pillws washble? and that one has him a little nervous, he isn’t going to lie.

Eddie rounds the corner, shuffling into a chair and situating his sketch pad on the empty easel in front of him. Pencil at the ready, he takes a deep breath, squares his shoulders, and decides that he’ll look anywhere except for this guy’s junk at first glance.
This proves to be a mistake, one of many that night, the first being his very presence in the goddamn room, of course.

Lance has pulled his hands out of his pockets, but they’re still hanging limply at his sides. He stares straight ahead, not breaking eye contact with the two Marmorites projected above the control room. For a second, no one says anything. Then Hunk starts to laugh.
“Good one, buddy,” he says, snorting a little. Pidge wants to laugh as well, if only to show Lance that he’d successfully broken up the tension. But Lance doesn’t smile back at Hunk, doesn’t even look at him. He’s not joking, Pidge realizes with a jolt.
