Summary
Akechi lives thanks to Loki and Robin Hood, sacrificing themselves for him. Their sacrifice leaves permanent damage to his body, and Akechi must learn how to live again under the weight of everything he’s done and everything that’s been done to him.
Luckily (or unluckily, depending on who you ask), he has the leader of the Phantom Thieves (and the Phantom Thieves themselves) there as his support network into this new world, post-Royal canon.

He's dressed in a school uniform, but carries a briefcase in leather-clad hands. He's congenial but overly formal. Someone so put-together shouldn't be eavesdropping on an average trio of teenagers. It should just be funny that a random passerby would intrude upon a private conversation – it should be most shocking that he heard their secret fourth speak – but what strikes Akira to silence is the sword alone.

When given the opportunity to run in Kamoshida’s Palace, Kurusu Akira takes it. A world without Sakamoto Ryuji in it is just a little bit darker. A world without the Phantom Thieves, however, is even more bleak.

“Do you know who speaks Latin?” Akira asks, not waiting for Goro’s answer. “Dead people. There’s a reason for that too—maybe it should stay dead. I get it, you get off to being smarter than everyone else, but for the love of the almighty god, can you at least not quote Latin at the breakfast table when I’m absolutely hungover and can’t even think clearly in Japanese?”
Goro takes a sip of his coffee, seemingly calm, but Akira doesn’t miss the way his fingers grip the cup—frankly, he’s quite surprised the delicate porcelain is still intact. “To be fair, you always found it hard to think in Japanese or any other language for that matter. And that hangover is your own fault.”
In which Goro Akechi is a disaster and Akira Kurusu is his obnoxious roommate.

"Pretty, huh?" He says, raising a hand to shield his eyes.
Goro shrugs. "Guess so. As pretty as a killing dome can get."
A slight smile vanishes from the boy's face as he bites his lip. He's the gentle type, Goro thinks, and he won't last another day if he keeps himself out in the open without any weapons. He knows that the last thing he needs is to adopt a stray, and keeping him around would mean watching two backs, not just one, but this boy could brutally die if he doesn't keep an eye out. The sun sprays light across the boy's face as Goro peers at him, scrutinizing his options. He knows his medicine, which would be useful, and he can identify plants. And, he thinks, if he can take him under his wing, he'll get a lot of sponsors.
"Come with me." He says, nodding upstream to the forest.----
Goro takes a particularly fragile tribute under his wing for the Games, not realizing that it's rather easy to get attached.
