"I hardly think being homosexual warrants jail time," Caitlyn says with a warning glance and that unrepentant pedantic smugness as they swoop by their next target.
Vi meets her eyes and gives a tiny nod, all the signal needed for Caitlyn to rather ungracefully bump into the couple dancing behind them, the exact couple they'd been discussing.
"Oh I'm so, so, sorry," Caitlyn's voice dips deep. "How clumsy of me."

"I know I said I wouldn't say that again," Vi mutters out from behind her thin muffler, "but you're sure we're not too old for this?"
Caitlyn shrugs. Her scarf flutters in the desert wind. "You said I'd go stir crazy sitting around at home."
"Or that you'd go back to work," Vi says, "which is even worse, because you're not supposed to be working anymore." She adjusts the bindings on her own feet. She squints out into the distance. "So I guess this is why we're trying to ski down a sand dune in Shurima. At least the sand will be soft when we trip over our feet."

"Vi," says Mother a little louder than usual because of the downpour outside. "Where are you from?"
"The sea," says Vi in between bites of porridge. "I've always wanted to see what it's like up here on the top side. There are so many stories. You really walk on feet. Feet are so cool."
Caitlyn looks at her own feet. She's never once thought they were cool, but she supposes she will miss them if she no longer has them. That makes sense.
