The other disguised Pokemon in Goldenrod have been seriously considering revealing themselves to humanity, notably the long lived Ninetales. When one his coworkers mysteriously is transformed into a Pokemon by Mew, their plans are greatly accelerated.

This made me cry several times. It's very much a journey of growth, about learning and discovering things for yourself and outgrowing your teachers. It's about learning things, and forgetting and relearning them, it's being shaped by the people around you. It's about the idealism and duty, and the idea of home. There's very much a contrast between Wataru/Lance at the beginning of the journey and the end of the journey. There's a reason I've reread this so many times, very much one of my favorites.

Or also; Instead of dying peacefully and being tossed into a shoddy grave where future students come to vandalize, Severus finds himself flung through time to the beginning of his sixth year, and must deal with the consequences.

Charlie wasn’t what he himself would call happy, but he had a stable job, so he wouldn’t complain. And honestly, ten-hour days weren’t all that bad. What else would he spend his time on, otherwise? So he was fully expecting to continue his career, in one form or another, until retirement.
Then he died. In his own home, in his own bed.
Only afterwards, now with far more arms and a strange relationship with gravity, did he start panicking.
Not quite alive again and in a place he’s never heard of, Charlie isn’t sure what to make of a world he hadn’t thought of in more than a decade. Really, he’s lucky to be where he is. After all, if he’s never heard of Almia that means nothing bad happens there, right?
