Years later, Jannik often thought back to the day when he first met Carlos Alcaraz, because perhaps the most interesting thing about it all was that their first meeting wasn't so earth-shattering. Jannik didn't feel like the ground had been pulled out from under his feet, and there weren't even butterflies in his belly. He simply turned around and found the young boy in the corner of the burning red clay court, who he had no idea at the time would change his whole life.
He was a lanky, short boy, with dark brown curls falling from his forehead, clutching in his hand a racket that might have been too heavy for him at the time. He flicked his eyes back and forth, as if he didn't believe where he was at first. For a moment, their eyes met. Carlos smiled broadly and waved boldly at him, as if they were ancient friends, not two strangers whose only thing in common was a racket in their hands. Jannik may or may not have waved at him, but he remembered that he immediately looked down at his shoes, red with clay and did not dare to look at the boy again.

Summary
“Are you shitting yourself?” Valentino chuckles, face scrunched and perfect, when he passes a helmet from a rack and watches him fumble with the straps.
Marc tries to look intimidating. Something in the back of Valentino’s glinting eyes tells him he’s failed rather spectacularly.
“Don’t do anything reckless. I have a championship to win, in my timeline.”
A beat and a dramatic gasp. Valentino, hand pressed flat over his heart, mouth agape in mock outrage, is trying not to burst out laughing.
“What, do I look like someone who does dangerous tricks on a scooter?”
Marc’s jaw clicks as he puts the helmet on, shaking his head.
“You look like someone who would crash us into a cliff for fun.”
Finally, Valentino lets go and laughs, his mouth one bit too big for his delicate face. He’s still laughing when he opens the gas with a flick of his wrist, the exhaust thick in the still air. Marc braces tight and hopes for the best.The one in which Marc time travels and finds out he's made himself a controversially young boyfriend in 1997.

The heavy scent of omega on the verge of heat hung in the air.
Valentino could smell it. He wouldn't be surprised if the whole fucking pit lane could smell it. It was burning up the air around them, had been since the starting grid formed. You could see the way that the members of the paddock - the crew, the engineers - pushed their twitching noses into the air, trying to find the source of the sweet smell.They wouldn't, Valentino knew this, because he recognised the scent. Familiar in the same way his mum's detergent was, even though he hadn't smelled it for years. Heat coiled in his gut, a knee-jerk reaction to the memories of Marc writhing beneath him during the scattered heats they spent together years ago. Nausea accompanied it, rolling his stomach as he considered the situation.

He shouldn’t have agreed to this in the first place, that’s it. He should have said yeah, no, thanks, been there, done that, came back all wrong, but he simply knew he couldn’t do it to Bez, whose barely contained enthusiasm was already bubbling up like frothy Champagne from a popped bottle. They were in the kitchen, Marc making his renowned chicken and peppers, and Bez had just – dropped the bomb like that.
“You should come over. For the weekend,” he had said while setting the table. Marc had thought he was talking about meeting his parents, but then Bez had added “at the Ranch” and suddenly Marc had felt his knees turn into fucking gelatine.
“At the Ranch,” he had parroted, and Bez had nodded, claiming everything had already been talked about in advance, that there wouldn’t have been any journalists, just some of the boys having fun and, well, their gracious host.
Which is still the crux of the matter, anyway.Bez invites Marc to the Ranch for a training session. Marc comes to regret every single one of his life choices in the span of two days but, all in all, things go way better than expected.
