The first few notes played.
Mika found himself moving, matching Shu’s distant movements, a dance so perfect that they were one. His voice filled the silence, soft and gentle against the rough grate of Shu’s impassioned singing in his mind, the hurried music filling his ears and drowning out the scream of his body against the flurry of movement.
He danced. Danced before the audience, vision blurring around the edges, world beginning to filter out into a muffled and distant lullaby-
Mika stumbled, suddenly feeling sick to his stomach, blinking against the harsh lights in his face, illuminating them as the ground came nearer and nearer- The shine directly in his eyes disoriented him, his ankle twisting as he struggled to balance, the world spinning so fast that he couldn’t hold back the shrill croak of pain as he reached for a support that wasn’t there. He couldn’t see, couldn’t hear, his cue coming and going as Shu glanced over in alarm-
He was falling. He missed the stage’s column, his hand falling against the air as he pitched sideways.
In a brilliant moment of clarity, all he could see was Shu’s eyes.
TL;DR: Shu drives Mika to the brink with exhaustion and reaps the consequences.
