After a steaming hot shower, Lex decides to seize the day. Not because of Mercy’s idiot carpe diem sticker she’d stuck on his bathroom mirror, either. Mercy has a knowing look when he tells her to cancel his meetings for the day, that he’s decided to go out for a stroll. He buttons his top shirt pocket, securing his chunk of pink kryptonite surely in place. Superman is assisting the elderly group of tourists across the street to the Saturday farmer’s market, according to the 9 A.M. morning report. It’s not a particularly homosexual thing to do.
OR: Always check the eBay reviews on kryptonite—Lex seduces Superman with a dyed hot pink rock.

first read: at some point in 2015
this is the fic that made me fall in love with internet epistolary storytelling. like i said in the steve rogers at 100 bookmark, so much of the appeal of captain america for me was the ways his fame and legend effected the world, and us vs barnes showcases that beautifully with twitter conversations, newspaper articles, and other ephemera that would surround a nation-wide event like the one depicted.
this fic does what the mcu never really does—bring the superheroes into the real world. show what they mean to people beyond the flashy cgi and one-liners. not only are the superheroes themselves people, so is the public. there is a world that exists outside of when it’s in peril and must be saved. there are people, ordinary people, with lives and thoughts and twitter presences. and of course, there is love.
