Summary
Summer break, two years after graduating high school. Will and Mike almost kiss, and everything changes. They find themselves on a journey together after a mysterious clue. They have no choice but to finally confront what’s been going on between them for years.
“I keep showing up,” Mike says. His voice doesn’t break, but he feels like it should. “Even when you try to throw me away.”
Will flinches, and Mike hates himself for it immediately.

Not because Will is drowning, not because the dark is clawing at him, not because the storm cornered him into reaching for the nearest solid thing- but because Will looks at him and decides I want you.
Because need can be a chain, even when it’s made of something soft. Even when it feels like saving.
Mike doesn’t want to be another cage in Will’s life- no matter how warm. And he knows cages. He’s built them for himself his whole life, out of usefulness and duty. The guy you call when everything goes wrong. The last line of defense. He mistook that for love: prove yourself, earn your place, don’t be replaceable.

Summary
William Byers has gotten himself into a bit of a sticky situation. He made and offered a painting to his best friend, Michael Wheeler. The one he was (and is) in love with. The one who dated his sister Jane for years. He delivered it with a speech, a profession of deep and undying love.
And then, William Byers lied. For the first time ever, Will lied to Mike. He pretended that Jane had commissioned the aforementioned painting, that his emotions were hers. He thought there was no chance for him to ever have Mike and so that he might as well save his relationship (and the world along with it). He thought he’d come clean, eventually, about the painting at least. It’d be in everyone’s best interest.
And then Jane fucking died.
Or, that one fanfiction where the author–who’s overly familiar with Cyrano de Bergerac–uses the fact that Stranger Things never brought its use of the Cyrano trope to completion in order to give Will a boyfriend who’s way cooler than Michael Wheeler could ever hope to be.
