Summary
Viktor twisted the staff in his grip. Jayce had made it very clear that he didn’t want to see Viktor again. Entirely understandable. But his methods had meant that the message had been extremely, painfully, clear. Jayce didn’t want to see Viktor again in the absolute most final of ways.
Viktor was quite literally dead to him.A year has passed after the events of The Inherent Resistance to Change and the older versions of Viktor and Jayce are coping magnificently.

Twenty three year old Jayce Talis wakes up on the floor in the middle of his apartment with all his Hextech research gone, missing three days’ worth of time, and a simple message on his blackboard:

It’s possible he’s been possessed, but that’s not important; his research is missing and a few notes are his only clues. Step one is obvious: find the mystery person ‘Viktor’.

Summary
The creature emerged from behind the heart of the Hexgates. Elongated inhuman limbs glinted metallic grey-purple, sinuous tendons and muscles parodied in metal with an impossible precision and fluidity. Long fingers curled around a tall staff that hit the floor periodically, punctuating the slow predatory forwards movement. Gold glinted on the chest, on the wrist, across the arms and legs.
When the anomaly is destroyed in the canon universe, it causes a backlash through the arcane. As another Arcane Herald Viktor reaches for the wild rune, he's instead thrown into another reality where the Hexgates have only been functioning for about six months.

Then the Machine Herald was gone. In its place stood… not quite Viktor, but the Herald Viktor, with his machine-like body and silvery iridescent eyes. The blue blanket was draped over his shoulders.
Jayce gaped at him.
‘Ah, no,’ said the Herald, with an expression of vague consternation. ‘That wasn’t exactly what I was going for either. Excuse me.’Jayce and Viktor survive the arcane event at the end of season 2, but it leaves Viktor with the ability to change between any of three forms; Human, Herald and Machine Herald. Unfortunately, its not quite a case of changing at will.

Jayce desperately wants to rub at his forehead, but the binding at his wrist stops him. He settles for squeezing his eyes shut. “Why?” he asks.
Viktor is silent for barely a moment. He says, tonelessly, “I assumed this was preferable to dying.”
