He springs up from the sparring mat, pats Dean on the shoulder and then goes back to his room where he jerks himself dry and hard like it’s some form of punishment. It probably is."
Sam has needs that can never seem to be met. As usual, Dean seems preternaturally adept at providing for his little brother.

Dean turns around. There’s a kid standing there, looking at Dean, then at the girl. He’s tall—Dean doesn’t often have to tilt his head up to look at people but he can tell he will for this guy—with shaggy brown hair and wide eyes. Dean looks at the blonde girl next to him.
“Sweetheart,” Dean says, raising his eyebrow. “You are way out of this guy’s league.”
Or: After a witch hunt, Dean is cursed to lose his memories of Sam. With Sam gone at Stanford, Dean doesn’t even notice. Sam does, though.

The shining knickknacks on the table to Sam’s left aren’t just pieces of bargain-bin estate fluff. It’s jewelry. Now that Dean’s moved away, a shaft of light falls right onto the table, reflecting light directly into Sam’s vision. He blinks away the bright spots, and there they are. Sitting innocuously on the edge of the table closest to him.
Later, it will feel like fate. Right now, the feeling is inexplicable, as Sam’s burgeoning sentence dies on his tongue.
Or: After Chuck has been defeated and life is as good as it's ever been, Sam impulsively buys a pair of rings at an estate sale. Dean starts acting strangely.

The burger guzzling, shameless flirting and the bad boy image, it’s all big brother stuff. It is the shape that Dean has chosen for himself. The shape that fits perfectly around Sam. Sam sees this. He thinks about it clearly and often. Dean’s clothes, music, hairstyle and simplistic loyalty to their father are all designed to provoke specific reactions from Sam. Even Dean’s beloved Impala is really a Temple of Sam, re-consecrated daily when they ride together, Sam sleeping forehead to glass.

“It’s a heliotrope.” Sam says, and Dean turns his head so he can look at him. Dean moves the washcloth off of his head, and the cold slimy material makes his skin prickle.
Sam is sitting at the motel table, hunched over his computer like he’s trying to merge it with his torso. He’s been twirling the flower stem between his fingers absentmindedly which Dean thinks is a little gross—that thing came out of him, but whatever.
Or: Dean is cursed with Hanahaki disease, and wants to die with some dignity. Sam is going to save his brother at any cost. A story in two parts.
