Emilia waits in the doorway, watching. Chris throws her a smug smirk when he looks over his shoulder and catches her checking him out. Then he turns the corner and it's the last that she sees of him for over a month.
And if she'd known that at the time, Emilia would have chased him down and dragged him by his belt loop back to her place, whatever bullshit, take it slow promises be damned.

He blinks at the sudden hostility. "What, what the fuck?"
"You killed Chris' dad."
"Yeah." Adrian shrugs. "So?"
Harcourt stares up at Adrian, her face all splotchy and red. He stares right back down at her. Neither of them move or even blink for a long moment until something finally flickers across Harcourt's stoic face.
Fear.
It's fear and Adrian knows it is because he's seen it on enough people's faces when they've stared up at him during their final moments on Earth.
And good, he thinks, she should be afraid. He could kill her right here and now so fucking fast that she wouldn't even know what hit her. She'd be dead before she even knew that he had a weapon in his hand.
He could do it.
It'd be so easy.
Adrian turns on his heels and walks away instead.

Adrian kills Earth-X Auggie and faces the aftermath.

Summary
All his life, he'd gone back to Auggie, time after time, hoping, begging, for a scrap of anything, any bare thread bit of love, only to get a boot in the fucking teeth. Up until he put that bullet through his dad's head.
This time will be different, Chris tells himself. New dimension, new him. He's not going to fuck up this time. He's been putting in the work, trying to be better, and now the universe has rewarded him with an opportunity to really put it to use.

Adrian Chase is weird.
It's just a known fact of the universe. The Earth is round, the sky is blue, and Adrian Chase is a weirdo.
He was a weirdo when Chris knew him as a kid. He was a weirdo when he only knew him as Vigilante. And now he's just as weird, if not weirder, as just Adrian. And Chris highly doubts that it's something he's finally going to grow out of in his early thirties.
So explain to Chris why it always take him by surprise when Adrian does something fucking weird.
