Summary
The day of Riko Moriyama’s funeral is a rainy one. The first in what’s supposed to be a week of downpour and gloom, according to the weather report Kevin had watched with empty eyes on a hotel room television earlier this morning. Oddly fitting, that a full week of a dark and foreboding sky would begin with the occasion.
It is a difficult pill for Kevin to swallow: hating that he’s here to witness it but feeling like he has to be, just the same.

“Have you considered the possibility that Neil has chosen you, but believes you have not chosen him?” Renee says. "Have you ever explicitly told him what you want?”
“Neil knows what I want,” Andrew snaps. This is not Andrew’s fault.
“How do you know?”
Because Neil always knows. He is as fluent in Andrew’s micro-expressions as he is in German and French. He knows which head tilts mean “go on” and which ones mean “shut up.” Without ever asking, he learned what it meant to see Andrew wearing double layers of long sleeves, or taking multiple showers in a day, and learned to hand Andrew the car keys.
That has always been the most terrifying thing about Neil — his patience to wait, watch, listen, learn. The prospect that if Neil were given enough time, there would be no part of Andrew that was just Andrew’s anymore.
“He has to know,” Andrew says.
“Does he?” Renee says. “Have you ever known Neil to assume that he is wanted?”
Five times Neil tells someone that he and Andrew aren’t dating, and one time Andrew uses his words to set the record straight.

Summary
Ilya hums, playing the card he's been considering for this entire conversation. “We could make more interesting, yes? A bet.”
“A bet,” Shane repeats, eyes flashing. “Like what?”
The reporter cuts in. “What about wearing the other player’s jersey?”
They both turn to her, and Shane says, “Like, the loser wears the winner’s jersey?”
“Maybe at the next game in a couple of months?”
“Is a good idea,” Ilya muses, nudging Shane’s elbow. “You will look better in my jersey than in Montreal jersey.”
Shane makes a low noise, his eyes holding a bit of a spark when he looks back to Ilya. It’s what Ilya was hoping for—the tiniest crack in the mask. He can see a hint of exasperated affection around the corners of Shane’s eyes, a little bit of fire burning just beneath the surface. It sends a thrill down Ilya’s spine, and he wonders if Shane will be snarky when Ilya gets him naked tonight.
“That’s not happening,” Shane replies, shaking his head. “Because you’re not winning.”

“What our fearless leader means is—will you be able to focus on the game instead of Andrew’s mouth and impressive biceps,” Allison clarifies, saddling up next to Neil with a knowing look.
“I—” Neil starts.
“I mean I get it,” Allison continues. “He has really nice biceps.”
