That was the thing about recovery. It never felt like recovery.

Recovery was full of backslides and speedbumps. Maybe you become a little bit different. The old version of you is dead, but that’s okay. You are still alive.
Alive like a clipped bird. Like a dog.

The stranger stares at me, and they have a power and weight to their gaze. It's hypnotic. I feel something leave me, and with a dull horror, find I am frozen in place. This person has taken control of my body from me. They smile at me with a sympathetic understanding, and incline their head to me, then go back to their task.

I hover in an immense darkness, endless ethereal white above head, so close I could reach up and nearly brush it with my fingertips. It is an endless pane, smooth as silk with wispy, transparent tendrils at the edges, opaque and solid further in, all of it sparkling. It is so immense and beautiful I cannot peel my eyes away from it. I want to be this fog.

One woman travels through the frontiers of space and scientific exploration. The other woman misses her.

If you asked Dean Winchester who his first love was, he would tell you it was Cindy Good in the eighth grade. That would be a lie. Cindy Good was the first girl he got to second base with, but not the first he loved. He didn't love a girl until the summer of '93, when he met Suzie. He never learned her last name, couldn't be sure Suzie was her real name. Never kissed her, either. He didn't even realize it was love until he'd left her behind.
