Summary
The first time they really fought, it had been over something stupid and insignificant, something about the choreography for their debut show.
Yoonchae’s argument at the time had been logical and for the better of the entire group, but Megan’s side had been valid, too, because the new choreography would’ve put both of them in risky positions. Regardless, both of them had been stubborn, and they ended up giving each other cold shoulders for a whole week before Lara had to mediate their reconciliatory conversation.
Now, they fight about work schedules and absences, mediated by questions of 'are you still able to make it to the charity dinner tonight?' and 'sorry, our film residency is going overtime, i won’t be able to fly back until next weekend' over text.

Summary
Manon knows why they’re in this formation.
Every time, it’s the same. Dani is beside her, Megan and Lara flanking the other side, Yoonchae and Sophia forming the rear. It’s a near-impenetrable triple-duo arrangement, one that looks perfectly strategic on the blackboard they had back at the red team base.
It’s also just a formation that happens to feel really humiliating for her in practice.

Summary
Megan usually didn’t believe in things like karma, but something must’ve gone catastrophically wrong in her past life, because surviving her sophomore dorm had become the most humbling experience she had ever gone through.
She had just turned twenty, but whenever she slept in her own room, she would wake up feeling like she had been put in solitary confinement while also being geriatric and in need of a combined neck and back brace. She initially blamed it on the frumpy twin XL mattress she’d been given. In fact, she was convinced: three consecutive nights on that mattress was probably enough to shave a full year off her lifespan — maybe even more, if she added in the amount of stress or caffeine she had these days. Her room genuinely seemed actively hostile to human habitation, and the circumstances she had were… not ideal.
Thankfully, she at least had Yoonchae.

Megan wasn’t one to usually victimize herself, but truly, having dyslexia had delayed her career plans.
Working in the CIA’s Directorate of Operations’ cyberanalytics team had been humbling enough. In just the last year, she’d mispelled several words on her quarterly presentation, conditioned her body to six hours of sleep, developed an ever-present sense of mild anxiety, and hacked through more security chips and intelligence networks abroad than she could count on both hands.
And based on Megan’s recent performance… well, she didn’t blame Missy for not wanting to put a dyslexic spy in the middle of Berlin and accidentally misspelling a license plate lead, or causing an international crisis because an asset kept saying ‘Royal Harem.’

Summary
Yoonchae had been feeling like shit for two weeks now.
At the end of the first week of college, she had briefly thought about dropping this Aztec art GenEd class; she had seriously considered changing classes altogether, mostly because she kept coughing during lecture, and the lecture was a hundred-person class in which, seemingly, she was the only person who was sick and coughing her lungs out. She had also briefly considered changing seats, but people had just begun sitting in the same locations, and it didn’t feel right to take someone else’s seat at this point.
Yoonchae decided it was better to stay where she was.
She continued coughing.

Summary
Sophia was very good at compartmentalizing her spaces.
Of note, there were few things she did in her bedroom — cooking and eating were done in the kitchenette of her and Yoonchae’s shared apartment, studying was done at the library, pilates at the gym, game nights at Megan’s dorm, and so on. She could count the number of things she did in that room on one hand: sleep, shower, change clothes, put on or take off makeup. Maybe an occasional phone call or FaceTime if Yoonchae was deep in the trenches of her own room, and Sophia didn’t want to risk a call in the apartment’s living area to interrupt the other girl.
Regardless, the point was this: Sophia did very few things in her bed other than sleep. She did not study there, she did not eat there, and she most definitely did not see it as a playground space for a threesome.
And yet here she was.

They must’ve skipped over Thanksgiving and gone straight to December, and Christmas must’ve come early or something, because she was lying back against her own bed, on top of her duvet, with legs dangling over the side of this twin XL mattress, and a beautiful, gorgeous, vixen of a woman was straddling her, nibbling at her neck.
Cross that — Sophia Laforteza was straddling her, and exploring Manon with all teeth and tongue, as if she were a starving woman who’d stumbled upon forbidden fruit.

It all started with an understaffed college opera.
It was more a shitshow than an opera at this point.
Manon should’ve known better. She was a junior and very much busy and had way too much to do and, most importantly, did not know how to ever say no, and now, here she was, ass-deep into the fall with a new source of niche, targeted stress.
But Lara had come to her, begging her to fill the role of lighting designer with big puppy eyes and a stupid promise to bring Manon as her +1 to the next 3 weddings she would attend.
God, Manon knew she should’ve said no.

“Powder, who’s that?” Vi squinted at the sky, trying to make out the new Ravenclaw seeker that was floating above the field. Something about the person’s posture and dark hair looked familiar, but Vi couldn’t quite place who it was. “Is that’s Tricia’s replacement?”
“Who’s who?” Powder asked, shivering in the November chill. She was wearing her house’s color—the Hufflepuff yellow was drawing quite a few looks from the other Gryffindors, but she had Vi’s maroon Gryffindor scarf around her neck. “Oh, the new seeker? I’m pretty sure that’s the Hat Girl.”
“Hat Girl?”
“Head Girl, Hat Girl. Fresh avocados, Fresha voca dos.”
“Caitlyn Kiramman?” Vi repeated in disbelief. “I didn’t know she played Quidditch.” Vi glanced at her sister. “Also, are you okay? Because I have no idea what you just said about avocados.”
