The show was good, Gerard thinks to himself, the kind of thinking where you force your abstract thoughts into words that are audible in your skull and yet have no voice at all, not even your own. He has no follow-up. His nostrils burn. His throat burns. His mouth tastes like vomit and vodka and sake. He thinks of the 8-ball he scored. He finds himself regretting it, now. You always regret stuff like that, after the high, maybe even still during it. You never learn your lesson though, not really.

In that moment, though drunk and sloppy and barely intelligible through the awful mix, Frank knew he was watching the birth of an immortal.
