    Summary

Deep down, he knows he bears some responsibility. He knows the lawsuit was a step too far, but he didn’t know what else he was supposed to do. Bobby refused to let him back or at least hear him out, and no one else was willing to listen. His medical bills and rent were beginning to stack up, and his department disability pay had stopped when they declared him fit for active duty.

He needed his job, his family.

    Now, he has neither.

He has an empty, cold apartment with sparse furniture, rusty, leaky pipes, and a singular window that struggles to keep out the cool night air. His neighbors blare music at all hours of the day. The cold aggravates his leg, the muscles tense beneath his skin, and the music stops him from sleeping — so do the nightmares. Buck’s fridge has been empty for days.

Despite the music that pulses through his apartment, the walls shaking, the silence all but swallows him. It consumes him, chokes him, and he lets it.

    Summary

If Buck thought the aftermath of the lawsuit was bad, it had nothing – absolutely nothing – on the Winchesters barreling into his life, finding out the apocalypse was imminent, that his own death was a seal, and a demon hitting on him.

He really should have realized that when an angel shows up to stop you from throwing yourself off a bridge, that it isn’t always a good thing.
    ----
After the lawsuit, Buck is back at work, hoping to reconcile. Only...it doesn't go as planned. His family hates him and after a lifetime of rejection it's one hit too many. Buck plans his goodbye…only a certain angel stops him, 'borrows' him, hands him the Winchester-patented starter's guide to hunting manual, and gives him purpose again. Too bad that angel was so busy saving Buck, they forgot about the goodbye letters left in the loft.
    ---
Buck rubbed at the bridge of his nose tiredly. "I'm pretty sure this is kidnapping."

Dean scoffed. Sam shot him a look. "Think of it as adult babysitting."

Gabriel waggled a bottle of top shelf bourbon from his perch on the TV stand. "With booze!"

Right. Buck eyed his new...friend, warily. "Okay, kidnapping adjacent."

Post-lawsuit, Buck returns to the 118, but is still on the outs with them weeks later.

What if, during that time, he meets the Mid-Wilshire crew and befriends them? What if it's Buck that gets kidnapped by Caleb instead of Lucy? What if the teams found the video stream? What if Caleb could talk through the feed?

    Summary

Buck feels haunted in his new place, the scent of the alpha who had previously rented it pervasive, but, he’s got to try and make it work— He needs to be able to make it work, because, the thing is, if he doesn’t he thinks he might cross a line with Eddie and he’s not sure they’d ever be able to recover from it.

He stands abruptly, the blood rushing to his head so fast his vision swims. He takes a step forward and is only dimly aware of the sting in his feet — he must’ve cut them on the shattered porcelain — but none of it really lands.

Because there, sitting on the counter like a beacon in the dark, is a container of cream of tartar.

His hands shake as he reaches for it.
