Little Joe finds a stranger in the middle of nowhere. In proper Cartwright fashion he brings him back to the Ponderosa. Dean, the stranger, just tries to survive the Wild West and get home. If only he could remember how he ended up there!

Summary
In a world in which supernatural creatures exist, immortal beings rely on a potion to preserve their sanity: If taken every couple of decades, Praeservitum erases just enough memories from an immortal lifespan to make sense of them all and live an unburdened life.
Joe is a vampire who's never had trouble with Praeservitum. If his life sometimes feels a bit lonely, he doesn’t want to blame a memory potion for it.
Nicky is a werewolf who has grown sceptical of the potion, as he feels increasingly like there is something missing from his life that used to be there, if only he could remember.
A chance encounter sees Nicky rescue Joe from a sticky situation. Although apprehensive of each other at first – they are a vampire and werewolf, after all – Nicky offers to help Joe when his friend goes missing. As they embark on a journey through the night, their lives unravel before them: where are all these memories coming from? And is this really the first time they’ve met?

Booker sucked in a large, deep breath, “When Merrick had you and Nicky. When Dr. Kozak was working on you, did they… did they take semen samples?”
Joe was taken aback and felt some new emotion gnaw deep in his gut. “What?” he gasped.
“Joe, you have to see where I’m going with this.”
“I… I don’t know, we were in and out of it a lot. There were so many drugs in our system, we died many times. I have no specific memory, but maybe? I don’t know. She took a piece of everything else. Why? Why?”
“Because I have Nicky’s son with me,” Booker said after an eternally long pause.

Joe didn't mean to fall in love with the cute Italian guy, but honestly he couldn't help himself. Now he has to deal with the consequences.
Where Nicky wasn't born in the Crusades and isn't immortal, and Joe has to come to terms with the fact that he'll one day lose the love of his life... whether it's decades or only a few years from now.
